Should be a lot of rain over the western/central North Island ranges tomorrow due to that very strong moist NW flow being lifted over the region. No good news for the river level.

Yes most rivers rise after orographic rain which the local stuff you dont see,the whanganui one is good at that,ie just showers in that city but in the hills it pours and catches up when its fine.

Looks like warmer weather coming up with the next couple of fronts dished up from the deep south.
Hope so.

This morning's low of 6.3 is the lowest here this month
Just shows the lack of clear and calm nights (i.e. anticyclones) we have been having this month

Was a tad chilly this morning indeed.. had to do a early run down to the dairy for a caffiene fix & noticed a couple of the regulars had the log fires up and going.. some light but steady rain but thank christ the wind has backed off.

Oops, I lie! The morning of the 5th had 5.7 here so that was the lowest.
Still, I would usually expect a low of 3C in September

Very strong northwest to westerly winds here for the last hour or so; every branch on old pines tossing about; also dust being blown along, visibility down to 500metres at times. Temperature around 16degrees. Most unpleasant day.

Temperature has drifted down to 14.9degrees now; wind still very strong and gusts make (wooden) house quiver, even though it's sheltered by a good thick high hedge. Dust still blowing - and filtering in through any cracks it can find. Tedious.

Not too bad here yet just averaging 40kmh gusting to 50kmh, but sure must be howling up top as theres a heap load of cloud spilling east of the alps now.

It was windy from first light this morning and early afternoon, but now died down to variant with the occasional blow from the NW.
Looking a bit 'rain-bandy' along the Southern Alps.

A shower of rain several hours ago, very refreshing and welcome after the winds, and blown topsoil of the other day. Air smells sweet and fresh again. 10degrees, sunny, breeze from the northwest. Real Spring morning.
