An active frontal band with good moisture will bring heavy rain to the west mid week including the western and central high country of the North Island. A polar trough looks on the cards for the South Island Thursday with the possibility of afternoon thunder/hail in Otago/Canterbury given very cold upper air currently being modeled.
Sounds good Steven, another dose of convection after Sundays lot is just the tonic.

Yup that looks like what we had 1 week ago.
A nice cold front over the Tasman has become active over the past 3 hours.
Looks very cool as the lightning activity lines straight up into the NT Australia on a trough (seems Darwin has some good storms already going by reports).
Wouldn't surprise me if the west coast is going to get a good clipping from that mid morning tomorrow.

Today is just awesome so far.. finally in a T & 3/4 pants for the first time in months! High dp's this morning with some blowing fog which is now gone, just a lot of moisture haze around.. said to the wifey this morning as we had our coffee out on the deck it smells & feels like a storm day.
Metservice are also going for 26 degrees in Timaru today. Cant see that happening unless the northwesterly gets up and the high cloud clears.Timaru is 10 degrees at the momennt while both Ashburton and Christchurch are already into the mid teens. currently 7.5 degrees here with thick high cloud.
PD has ramped up the max to 21 for Auckland?
Its possible but this deck of cloud coming in now might snowball things.. latest nzaa taf doesnt show anything spectacular but the metar is 16/12..
$5 donation to the canty quake appeal if we do top 21 today, you have my phone number PD
*sidenote* Already sent more $ than sense down there so another wager isnt too much to call.
152.3 sunshine hours till 6pm yesterday. Looking like a healthy 170+ till months end. 20 degrees now in Christchurch, by the looks of tomorrow Christchurch will have picked up 5 20+ degrees days in a row!

Well they always take their daily high from the highest of the Auckland sites, so probably will say we hit 21 today.
Certainly won't be reaching 21 where I am (will be lucky to reach 19)
approaching 19C here now..but a sea breeze has arrive now, so not sure if it will get much higher, although it is still trending up
Ricky is also on nearly 19C and still rising, so I would say 21 is reachable alright
I see its 21C in Waiuku already too
whats the record for sep?

Will get some higher temperatures this afternoon as this high cloud from the northwest pushes out east!
Yeah high cloud shifted out of here a couple of hours ago temp went from 12 degrees to 20 degrees in less than an hour. Currently 22 degrees with the northwesterly starting to pick up.
Looks like we are going to end up with about average temperatures for September here overall....a warm first week, average 2nd. then a cold week with those gales, and now a warm week to end up
I would say Canterbury will be above average temperatures for Sep too?
but Southland might be below average after that cold week!
Currently a balmy 22 degrees with fine and cloudy periods. Hopefully that cloud goes away so we can have full on sunshine and find 25 degrees. At the moment a light NE breeze. The november feel continues.

Yes, 19C here, a little bit humid with a dewpoint of 14C, sunny.
Sure has felt humid, 18-19C here this afternoon with the dewpoint 15-16C for a time. I think it was quite unusual that the humidity has been above 80% all day considering how sunny it was.
Traveled to CHCH today with business duties,a heavy but brief shower hit just before the SW wind change as i went in a meeting,on the way home all the way to Waipara the wind change had made the atmosphere very hazy till i reached the Waka pass and then it was back into a crystal clear/low haze view as the wind change which often doesn't do is make it this far inland.
Looking outside now there's heaps building cloud, looks like something going to happen.
Wind turned southerly here this morning by 10am. At the moment there is stormy-looking cloud moving in various directions - from south and west at different heights - and looks as if a storm is brewing for somewhere for sure. 10.5degrees now.
A bit of rain here and subsequent cooling as the wind went SW this afternoon. Not stormy looking however but looked like some sort of convergence from the other way around.?
