Been raining constantly here since 5pm yesterday yet only just tipped over 30mm, looks like another 6 hours or so of rain for us too so might get to 40mm for the event.

A few spots of rain began here about ten minutes ago; breeze on the ground easterly-northeasterly; dark grey rainy-looking cloud building up to west - northwest, and slowly moving across at high level. 16.5degrees. Feels quite humid compared to recent days: 70%.

Another nice fine day here. Sept has been a ripper! 19 degrees now. although ashburton is on 12.6 so the southerly cant be too far off but at least it will remain fine for us. Ground today is so much drier than it was 30 days ago. Who would of thought it could be this much of a change. Late August we had waterlogged paddocks and now I have the hose on the garden again.

Just looking back at Sept 2010 here - some stats!

Rain = 40mm (28mm of this on 2 days)
days over 20 degrees = 6
Days over 19 degrees = 8
Overnight lows below 2 degrees = 5
Highest Max Temp = 24.0
Highest Low Temp = 17.1
Lowest Max Temp = 11.4

Interesting Stat: The last 5 days have all been over 20 degrees. Today currently 19 meaning of the last 7 days they have all been 19 or above. Keep it going!!

Just stopped raining here 5mm Since 1pm currently 11 degrees With a light Southerly wind. Good to have some rain to dampen the topsoil as it was starting to dry out after the recent warm windy dry weather.

Just had a brief shower of small hail mixed with large raindrops here after the southerly change came through. Temperatures dropped 7° in half an hour as well.

Some high topped CU brewing up out there at the moment, took a few snaps on my way home will post later on quite impressive tops.
Southerly just hit here now.
While i am on the topic someone said to me yesterday they had a clap of thunder at the Canterbury University yesterday afternoon, the bolt was nearly overhead.
It was accompanied by brief rain.

Interesting to see the TV weather reported 19 for Auckland today? Only reached 16.4C here :? (and I see Grey Lynn only got 16.7 too)

No rain here from the change, did have some brief drops at work just after 2:30pm but nothing major.
Here's a few photos i snapped of the towering convergence which went up this afternoon, cant see the tops of the clouds but you can tell by the base it was good.
Taken just after 4pm west end of Tram Road, the convergence looks to be sitting over the Ruapuna/airport area.

Yes. Noticed the convergence as we were coming back towards Hornby after being in the city. It was NE in town but as we were coming along Blenheim Road towards the Sockburn Roundabout, I noticed dust before us as it was the southerly coming through. As we appoached The Hub, the Hornby Hub, I did notice some Cu towers building but it didn't look 'pregnant' enough and after we had did our shopping in the Hub, I noticed that all that cloud has dissipated and there was that watery AS layer towards the mountains. Much of the southerly influence had faded out. There may of been one or two heavy spits, but I never saw anything.

I think Jim Salinger once referred to some of the daily highs reported on TV as 'temperature for tourism'. ;-)

Noticed Aucklands ones often are almost 2c higher than reality wheres much of the other main centres are rounded to the next cardinal "standard" number.

Whenuapai had 19C yesterday afternoon. The cloud base was higher and weather a bit brighter in the W due to sheltering from the NE.

Rainfall shocker to be confirmed here - the large 70mm+ dump here pushed our May-Sept total past 1955's - now we have to go back to 1874 to get a higher number. However there's no prospect at all of surpassing the April-October value set in 1974 (1406mm).
