Northwest gales and fronts; 2-7th September

Unread post by CHCH Weather Chaser »

A cool start to the morning here in Westport. Cloud is increasing ahead of the front approaching the coast. Models suggesting around 40mm for Westport so hopefully some nice heavy west coast rain. Pitty not able to stay until Tuesday as Sunday and Monday looks very wet for the west coast of the SI. Will keep you posted of the weather in this neck of the woods as we only have a couple of members over here

Stopped raining around lunchtime. However, 20 minutes ago had a huge rain shower with thunder heard. Not much just a few claps but it was exciting stuff being a cantabrian its something not use to! Hopefully another squall of rain soon with more claps.

yes, plenty of moisture coming in. Dps over the North Island tomorrow of 15C! Given the strong airflow should be some heavy rain over the North Island ranges. Rain will weaken for Auckland though.

Should be some good snow fall on the South Island ski fields early week.

NW wind quite strong here late this afternoon and evening. House shuddering. Don't know whether it's wind or aftershocks? :?
Lights flickering too. Don't want the power off again from high winds this time [-X
