Looking at the lightning data, yes, looks like a fairly decent thunderstorm over western Northland (Kaipara) early this morning and weaker activity down the western NI coast.

Certainly no squalls here...I'm quite surprised the wind is only gusting 50km/h actually, maybe it will pick up through the day

It snowed to 300 metres in Kaitoke, Upper Hutt but didnt really settle was a mild dusting to be honest there is a significant amount of snow above the 400metres an above mark, Well the metservice got most of it right , but could have put out a warning on Rimutaka hill road alittle earlier than 4am this morning. I did think it was a little odd to say snow down to 400 metres an not have a road snowfall warning out for it. Looks like its clearing now, is there more snow coming for the Lower North Island tonight?

The isobar lines look good for another blast tonight but will have to wait to see what the metservice put up later. Snow melted pretty quick and sun is out now. Getting just odd shower but very few and far between now.

Morning lads, reasonable snow on the low Maungaraki hills to the East of Carterton this morning. Wife was turned back at Featherston by Police advising a 4 hour closure on Rimutaka Hill Road.... we should have checked first! Also, good dusting of snowto low levels on the western foothils of the Tararua Range, especially around the Mount Holdsworth foothills.

Agree if were going to have something how about some decent thunder/lightning activity or better snow otherwise a decent stable (and stationary) anticyclone just east of us :-)
the other comment about the rimutaka hill road closed probably be the same time to go through the manawatu gorge and through Lvin to the capital.

Dusting on the Port Hills above about 400m, shouldn't last long in today's sunshine.
