Avalanche wrote:It snowed to 300 metres in Kaitoke, Upper Hutt but didnt really settle was a mild dusting to be honest there is a significant amount of snow above the 400metres an above mark, Well the metservice got most of it right , but could have put out a warning on Rimutaka hill road alittle earlier than 4am this morning. I did think it was a little odd to say snow down to 400 metres an not have a road snowfall warning out for it. Looks like its clearing now, is there more snow coming for the Lower North Island tonight?
A dusting on the Orongorongos, no evidence of any on the city hills. Sunny with a cold SSW wind. City forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning has no mention of southerly orientation, just NW.

Sketchy reports of a 'possible tornado' just SW of New Plymouth early this morn ...
'Wild weather continues' - Taranaki Daily News
Last updated 11:00 22/09/2010

LATEST: A tornado ripped through Oakura this morning bringing down power lines and tearing the roof off a garage. The Oakura fire brigade was called to a property on Surrey Hill Rd after the tornado touched down about 2am. The roof of a double garage was ripped off and flung into neighbouring paddocks, part of it landing 500m up the road. The twister also brought down power lines on State Highway 45 south of the town.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Mt Taranaki, snow began falling about 9.30am. ...

Apparently some of the big surf in Hawaii starts out from Lows south of NZ.

The north of the country catching the cold weather today, currently only 10C in Auckland , gusty showers with small hail.

not suprised, very big Cb's overhead in auckland today, and the sun has just come out, so potential for daytime heating. could be interesting if it keeps up. my friend reported hail in northcote just 10 minutes ago.

Sunny day in Chch, but still a chilly breeze. I'm surprised the Desert Rd has stayed open this morning - good coating of snow on Ohakune webcam and reports of snow in Stratford, Taihape and Mt Bruce. Rotorua only 5.6C in recent obs on MetService site.

judging by the radar, it looks like that Cb you spotted, Tim, collapsed and sent out a shockwave of showers in all directions, just as it neared Auckland.

haha, or, we could just be in a low center

Chilly breeze in exposed areas, but air clarity and views from higher spots fantastic. The harbour and surrounds are enchanting in such situations.

Another great day yet again here in Christchurch. This weeks weather has been outstanding compared to the last 3 months. Despite the brief wintry flick that brought a dusting of snow to settle on the hills plenty of sunshine and milder weather has been present. At the moment hardly a cloud in the sky and a balmy 15.2 degrees.

Its been great to see some sunshine today, even if it is brief because of the fast passing clouds - an average windspeed of 48km/hr at one stage, not the speeds you are seeing in parts of Akld but high for inland flat ground. Gust of 54km/hr at 10:25. At 10.6ºC it is just under the max... Overnight low was 4.2ºC.

It has been great hasn't it, I'm loving it. The forecast for the rest of the week looks incredible, some more Nor Westers on their way which will drive up the temps.

What I said earlier, the weather there would clearup (not us though its sunny only now because of the high windspeed moving the clouds) till the SW arrived and ridging
