"Wellington north of Upper Hutt" ?

Unread post by igaquo1 »

Just looking at this excerpt from a recent Met Service weather warning, where exactly is "Wellington, north of Upper Hutt"?! Looking at a map, there doesn't seem to be any of Wellington north of Upper Hutt, or do they mean the Kapiti Coast?? In which case, don't they normally put Kapiti Coast? any thoughts?

"North of Upper Hutt" for Wellington doesn't make much sense. Kapiti is treated separately when relevant. As far as Wellington proper goes, the dividing line in SW/W/WNW situations is often near the northern end of the harbour, with the more northern suburbs in the west and Petone & the Hutt frequently experiencing different conditions - more cloud, shower/rain events not occurring further south. This divide was sharply illustrated several times in the last 10 days during the WSW flow.
