Re: General October Weather
Looks like some convergence this afternoon over Auckland. Sun blocked by clouds here currently, but clear skies out to my east.

In CHCH today and man that NE was a killer, horrable. Its about this time of year now that arriving back from near the coast is about stepping out of the car to a far far warmer world, accordingly to the wife (who does that sound like ????) there was only a light NE and a high of 21C

Re: General October Weather
Interesting to see the sea breeze convergence again today with even some weak showers showing up on the radar just south of AK.

Yah looked a little chunky at times, was under one of those showers just before.. not quite enough to pack everything undercover but enough to feel the drops after a fabulous productive sunny day.

Re: General October Weather
Agree, Richard, about that north-easterly in Christchurch today. Quite boisterous and chilly. Glad to be back home. Noticing a great deal of haze against the foothills from Mt Somers to Mt Peel as we came back. What, I wonder, does this indicate? - mist? dust? cold air? It's 13.6 at present & 58% humidity.

Re: General October Weather
0 at dunedin airport this morning but it was an amazingly calm clear day, must have got to 20.
There could be a good lashing from the deep sout this sunday by the look of the charts, maybe some more low snow.

Re: General October Weather
Had that dust over Auckland yesterday.
A cold trough/southerly spreads onto the SouthIsland Sunday, the NorthIsland Monday and the southerly flow might linger there for a few days.

Re: General October Weather
Warm morning indeed. 20.5 degrees here already with no wind to speak off and blue dome skies. I see only 15 at the airport currently.

Re: General October Weather
Fabulous day in Ashburton - I saw 28degrees registering on the East Street thermometer/clock (no claims for accuracy though) - warm and sunny. Again, the noticeable haze on the northwestern horizon as I returned late this afternoon. I see 'satellite hot-spots' on a website, indicating bushfires in Northern Territory and northern Queensland, and I read of controlled burnoffs in Victoria over recent weeks. Is this the cause of the haze? Will look for a colourful sunset tonight, perhaps.

Re: General October Weather
Its been a fantastic day again much warmer with an upper level NWer and a very light NE below, getting up to 23C.
There was some fog this morning hugging the coast though as it was clear as a whistle at work.
That cold Southerly on Sunday could be a good thunder and hail producer for Canterbury, its very cold air coming up snow down to about 200m atleast.

Re: General October Weather
Average temperature here for the first 7 days of the month has been slightly lower than for all of September. Top temp so far only 18.3. I want the 21 degree days to hurry up and arrive (at least it's been nice weather though, not complaining there)
Looks like it's gonna get worse before better though!

Re: General October Weather
Weather has been too cloudy last couple of days for my liking. I expect anticyclones to produce sun!
A bit of a polar trough will sweep the country Sunday into Monday.

Re: General October Weather
Next weeks not that great either an anticyclone in the tasman low pressure over hawke bay for the duration of the week though be some sunshine in the southerly though but a tad cooler.
As soon as you see that parallel isobar(during an anticyclonic period) up the SI westcoast and it hooks over wiakato and the bay of plenty expect plenty of cloud and often wind in the warmer months.
