Dry airflow made the day feel cooler especially in the wind, dewpoints only around 5C today.
Mix of cloud and fine spells for Auckland, low 10C, high 18C, average temperatures for October.

Such low dewpoints and little differentials in temp range, yet the widespread dry air mass thats covering NZ because of the strong anticyclone at that the moment has given my area a temperature range of 20C today, but this range is nothing when it comes to mid summer

You are never far from the water in Auckland, keeps the nights milder and days cooler during warmer part of the year

Yer bit of a bonus spwill,if they can just hurry up and build the dams on the hurunui like they are talking off, this may well help keep it a bit warmer at night like tonight, can see it getting down to frost material again tonight. #-o

Looks like we just missed out on the NZ record for October, but still beat the nelson record. By my calculations we got 295.7hrs of sunshine, nice. 8) Rwood might like to confirm that as I am not sure how the cutoff times work for sunshine, is it 9am on the last day of the month or 1st day of the month?

We also got our lowest October rainfall total too I think with around 6mm for the whole month.

Nelson observer confirms 296.7 hours, local record (NZ record 299.6 at Blenheim 1969). Rainfall 6.8mm, record low for October for G13222. Cutoff is late evening on last day of the month. Prelim. NIWA report confirms quite a few record highs for sunshine, though some EWS values should certainly be taken with a shovel of salt.

I won't trawl for stats. mistakes with temperature etc - others can verify them more easily. However, as for some time now, record sun values from various EWS sites are not really compatible with old manual ones, which would certainly have shown lower readings in many cases (even though records might still have been set). Applies particularly strongly to Balclutha.

Also Nelson's lowest Oct rainfall since records began in 1941 with just 7mm. 0_o

NIWA have Akld's rainfall of 20mm as the 2nd lowest on record, presumably its 19.8mm for Akld Aero, along with 24.4mm for Mangere (which should make it the 3rd lowest for both sites). MetService on its website and in the NZ Herald however have 32.2mm for Akld Aero?

24mm here.

28mm here, using the 9am reset time. Rainfall across the region seems to have been quite uniform.
