Good point Jamie, we tend to forget about frost now but there should be light frosts inland starting Saturday.

Hopefully its not an anticyclone that skirts the top in the tasman thus filling the gutters with crap and cloudy skies, another one like this one would be fine.

Back to "normal" weather it seems, lot less rain than of late, plenty of ridging and (gales) though warm weather too from backends hopefully and less extreme events all the way out on current models and likely another high at the end of that period.

Weather graph looked pretty cool this morning. Rain arrived around 1.15am when the wind turned from NE to NW, and then a large and sudden temperature drop happened after 2.30am when the wind turned SW

The N.I looks like an ipod today ie showers everywhere except Wellington, this is better exemplified in a NE flow covering from the north. :>

Stunning start to October. Already on our high of 17 degrees after a 5 degree start with not a cloud in the sky and not a breath of wind. Long as the winds remain light 20 is on the cards. It actually ended up getting to 20 yesterday so if we reach 20 that is 7 consecutive days of 20+ temps.

No chance of a 20 high here today though, made it to 17 with a strong NW wind all day.

Thanks to a slackening NW wind the temps didnt go below 5 here this morning.
The NW has been light all day at about 10 - 15 km which helped it get to 22C

Looks like an anticyclonic period for October now but with some southerly systems trying to infritrate?
Warm and settled for much of the country. Not in the much of the way for Spring storms for us here, coming up.
I think we had that in one bash, last month , with snow down south, strong winds up north and earthquakes here in Canterbury, but earthquakes are not nessesarily connected with weather except for recent rains soaking into the ground ie. liquefaction etc..

Not a bad time of year to get a anticyclonic period this week, during say Feb i would morally think #-o "one *#*@ hot week coming up",One other thing i'm pleased about is that it takes a southerly change to bring frosts now,so bring on the anticyclonic period \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Frosts may now be a ...and I quote from Jim Hickey, a "Goneburger" , hopefully, judging by oncoming systems.

Acclimatised back to NZ weather now, great how a 19 degree day can feel like a warm/hot day again.

White clouds on my northeastern horizon may be those you can see; a few clouds around the summit of Mt Hutt also (around 6,000'). 17.1degrees here, sunny, pleasant spring day.

Could be a light southerly out to sea south of Bp, pushing against the NE causing abit of a convergence.

A decent trough to cross the country this weekend, a brief wintry type cold snap over the SouthIsland early next week is a possibility at this stage.
