Pretty sure Akld Aero also got close 22C this arvo - even Brian managed 21.7C today.

I wouldn't call MetService's TV temps 'official' by any means, especially as they are taken before 4pm. And for Akld, I think MetService actually use the highest of 4 sites, the 4th being Whangaparaoa.

21.6C here.

Interesting, I've only recorded 2 days this month with a high after 4pm ;) most days have the high between 1pm-2.30pm

Would that be because of a sea breeze where you are david?

Very warm out there tonight with it still being 16. I could swear it was hotter than the 22 i recorded today. felt more like the 24.5 Tim recorded. I wonder if my temp readings are accurate. :-k

Probably is. It's quite interesting actually, very occasionally the eastern sea breeze is weak and so gets replaced by a NW in the afternoon which tends SW, and causes a temperature rise for me because I have more land west of me than east of me

another nice today, well was, now looking out the window, I see some cloud has come in to the north of me....
and tomorrow looking good too

been an amazing run of fine weather for the upper NI ....for the time of year....for any time of year even I would think...

A sunny October for NZ. I think for Auckland October temperature will be average, sunshine above average, rainfall well below average. A very stable October ( anticyclonic) as a few on the forum predicted.

Mean-temps at Akld Aero may end up about normal this month, but NIWA's nearby Mangere site still looks like it will end up roughly about 0.7C below normal. :(

2mm of showers and drizzle here this morn - currently only about 15C.

Nelson only needs about 17 hours of sunshine this weekend to match or surpass its October record of 287 hours.

Not so sure about "any time of the year". Although it was a cold month, October 2002 featured record high sunshine hours over a large area, incluidng most of the North Island.

One of the standout periods of continuously settled anticyclonic conditions over the North Island particularly but also from about Christchurch north was in January 1957. An anticyclone was over the north and centre of the country from the 7th to the 26th, with very sunny conditions in the North Island and north/NE of the South Island. Things were less stable in the remainder of the month, but with ridges over the NI on several days. This was easily the sunniest January on record for the North Island overall, as well as in Nelson, Marlborough and North Canterbury. Many stations had their highest recorded values for January (or any month in fact); the highest values were:

335 (Blenheim), 328 (Foxton), 326 (Nelson), 323 (Ohakea), 316 (Auckland, Mechanics Bay), 315 (Kaitaia), 314(Kerikeri), 313 (Tauranga).

Chrustchurch's total of 288 hours was a local record at the time. It's noteworthy that the central pressures were not unusually high during the 20-day period, and the mean monthly 9am MSLPs at Kelburn were several hPa lower than in the hot and humid January 1956.

Must be a record for the anticyclone out to the east of us. Up to 1047hPa at noon today.
No 'anticyclonic gloom' here today compared to yesterday although the easterly is a little bit fresh :p

i got 1043.9 at 8.40am. Not sure how many times Christchurch has hit 1044.

I think MetService had 1044.0 hPa for Le Bons Bay this morn, 1043.7 hPa for Kaikoura and 1043.2 hPa for Chch Aero.

So not too far off NZ's land record of 1045.9 hPa set in Wgtn in 1889.
