Ended the day with one good rumble and a brief shower about 2.00,15mm today which is rather handy to help delay having to turn the pump on for the season.

Yes another unstable day producing weak thunderstorm activity, that hail was the size i had at work on Monday.
Not too much at work today apart from some brief one or two hail stones pea sized around 2pm as a SW came through, and seen one IC lightning bolt nearby followed by silent thunder.
But that rain this morning was really heavy, 5mm within 10 minutes.
Maybe a simular but weak repeat tomorrow morning as another trough brushes through in the early hours, should be exiting by daybreak but like todays action it happened as the front departed.
Not too much on the outlook for a week or so now.

We didnt get any precipitation (rain or hail) from the thunder activity but I saw the noon radar and went outside and you could hear the thunder in the distance as it rolled over and behind the port hills with 2 flashes of lightening observable.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:Never heard or saw anything and I was in Halswell????

This must be one of the few thunderstorms I've missed.
If it wasn't for this forum I would of missed it.
No one here mentioned they heard thunder.
Thanks Leighton for observing the lightning and hearing the thunder from your place.
At that time I was head down buttocks up, concentrating of cleaning away the filth from the hospitals kitchen floor by using new cleaning techniques they are using here now.
Driving home at 1:30pm, the sky did look thunderstormy northwards as what it did when I drove to work around 7:45am but the conditions weren't that right enough to be interested in any thunderstorm activity.

I had a clear view south of the city and the port hills from my desk @ work, saw about 8 flashes of lightning, a few of those were sheet lightning with visible bolts, thunder too , was very impressive as you could see the full brunt of the thunderstorm coming over the hills, and clear blue sky just behind it, a real nice cell. As it passed out to sea we got a few drops here in town, but they were BIG drops, no hail in the city tho.

Any lightning photos?
... or the actual cloud that the thunder/lightning came from.
thanks Ben, for saving those pieces of hail.
There are still a few Cu forms around, now coming up to evening but, now that i'm observant, things will dwindle away.
