Yes, the late January storms were top shelf. There was also a good spell of thundery weather in May but 2010 has been a quiet year.Tornado Tim wrote:Bar the Late January Severe StormsNZstorm wrote: 2010 has certainly been a non thundery year for NZ.

Re: General November Weather
LOL Ricky!
Some good beefy showers between Hamilton and Aucky now.
Wonder if they will have enough energy to become storms?....

Re: General November Weather
Wow, that's amazing! Must've been fairly isolated. Just curious though; if most of that fell in about 15 minutes, wouldn't the max rate be more like 60mm per hr, rather than 6mm per hr?ricky wrote:Had a great downpour here around 12:30 .. Just some light afternoon drizzle here and a relatively cool max-temp of 17.2C. Back to single digit temps tonight according to M/S ... brrrr.

Re: General November Weather
interestingly it was more than a sea breeze here this afternoon (20 knots of wind here this afternoon and there was not that much heating going on)
I think it was a return of yesterday's southerly up this side of the NI (mid to lower level clouds are moving up from the S)
which then collided with the easterly ....and caused the heavy shower activity

Yes just 0.4mm here today, although it did look ominous at times. Hardly any wind and quite cool with a max of 17.5C

Re: General November Weather
Convergance indeed, it looked like it was walloping down just a little south of the bombays, clear defined rainshafts & some nice lowerings here and there, had to go and pick the missus up from work but then the north fired as well.. nothing down this way except a smile to my face watching it all unfold

Re: General November Weather
Lines of big cumulus in our skies today, showers were very hit and miss, interesting to see Greylynn had that downpour.
ECMWF still has a low on track for northern NZ early Dec but it is too far off at the moment to have confidence in the model.

Re: General November Weather
I noticed some of the nice cloud bases this afternoon too. Maybe would have been more action if there had been some surface heating. I decided to buy a hot lunch today since it was only 14C at midday! LOL

Re: General November Weather
Yes, a shame to have the cold upper trough there today and for no real instability to come from it. Too cool. The heavy shower in Grey Lynn was well received by my garden.

Re: General November Weather
Little early but by 3 dec looks as if a depression is coming along from the NW instead of being to the east.

Re: General November Weather
Here are few pics for Today:
Even though the convergence was pritty weak it was still good to get a little bit of structure:
Here are some pictures of some little towers just before the trough passed by. Looking North some developing cumulus with the trough behind with heavy showers:

Sunny at my place but a convergence line has developed just east of here with showers forming over some eastern suburbs.

Re: General November Weather
Certainly a dull afternoon out this way, must have been cloudiest 3-5pm as it was only 15°C in that 2 hour period. Too bad nothing developed from the convergence Becoming sunny now

Re: General November Weather
A much warmer morning than the last two with 8C,the next 3 or 4 days there's talk of inland showers so thats something to look forward to,in past summers when there's similar weather we can get storm that develop out near the foot hills to the NW of here and move this way.
Here's hoping,if anyone's willing to chase up this way, PM me your cell number and i can text updates if anything looks likely.
