13.6 degrees, the lightest possible drizzle blowing with the fresh to strong southerly breeze; overcast low uniform grey cloud; visibility maybe 800 metres. One of those days that's neither "useful, ornamental or diverting" so far.

Overcast here as well sitting on 14.5 degrees. Should be much cooler today than the last few days. Fine up in Tekapo and Twizel so should be warm inland today.

Looks like a Low-Mod risk of some storms popping up tomorrow around Western Waikato (Waitomo).

Seems to be some shear too :)

Upper air temps are bit fickle though......

I looked at the radar and a storm developed over the Gisboune ranges with pink at its core!

A Thunderstorm Warning has now been issued on it:
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
Issued by MetService at 04:10 pm Tuesday 30 November 2010.
Valid until 05:00 pm Tuesday 30 November 2010.
This warning affects people in the following local government areas:
WHAKATANE and WAIROA.
At 04:00 pm, MetService weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near LAKE WAIKAREMOANA.
These severe thunderstorms are moving towards the westnorthwest, and are expected to lie near LAKE WAIKAREMOANA and MINGINUI at 04:30 pm and near MINGINUI at 05:00 pm.
These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by very heavy rain.
Very heavy rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in force for BAY OF PLENTY, HAWKES BAY and TAUPO.
The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management advises that as storms approach you should:
- Take shelter, preferably indoors away from windows;
- Avoid sheltering under trees, if outside;
- Move cars under cover or away from trees;
- Secure any loose objects around your property;
- Check that drains and gutters are clear;
- Be ready to slow down or stop, if driving.
During and after the storm, you should also:
- Beware of fallen trees and power lines;
- Avoid streams and drains as you may be swept away in flash flooding.
This warning is due to be updated or lifted by 05:00 pm Tuesday 30 November 2010.
Keep an eye on the Tokoroa Boltek as that is the closest, he needs to bring in his ranging a bit more but yet it can see the storm well.

Doh, I was working at Whakatane Hospital and had no idea. Never mind, too busy to chase anyway. In any case, my desire for storms should be satisfied in just a few days time.

Could be interesting (or should I say dangerous) for trampers in the Ureweras.
A bit of drizzle overnight/tomorrow morning should be the grand total of the southerly front moving over us in Chch.
