Filters

Out of curiosity, what filters do you use?

Obviously I have a CPL, but I'm wondering what others are using on a regular basis.

Any filter particularly useful with lightning?

Just UV filters to cut down haze and protect the lens. I have a set of graduated ND filters but they're bulky and too much hassle compared with shooting RAW and then adding a "filter" in Lightroom.

I once tried using an ND filter to allow longer exposures for lightning but it also kills the contrast...

In theory, you can use a narrowband hydrogen alpha filter to take a photo of lightning in daylight but they're expensive and everything else would be black :-)

I confirm that narrowband filters are expensive ! They are commonly used in astronomy, and the most common diameters are smaller than the usual ones for photographic lens ... :P
I wonder what sort of shot you would get with a H-alpha ? It just cuts so much light out ! :?
