Timelapse photography

I thought I'd start a new topic for this in the hope I will either have more to contribute in the future or others will have some, or both! I am big fan of timelapse photography and with some great examples of Lenticularis clouds this arvo I couldn't miss the opportunity. I have a few others but need to convert them to a reasonable size so I can upload to my flikr account.

By the way this is best viewed larger but as the high def vid is around 140Mb I thought it would be best to go with a slightly lower res video file!

Thanks for the comments! Yeah towering Cu's look awesome in timelapse but unfortunately I won't get too many chances of capturing those here. Star trails are also very cool in timelapse and hopefully if it looks alright compressed I'll upload one of those later today.

I wish telecom were like ISPs in Oz and didn't charge for uploads, ISPs are stingy as anything over here!

Cool kaimaikid, is that an internal feature of weather display or a separate program? I know WD has a webcam feature, been meaning to look into it as I want to put something like that up for my site but since I haven't even gotten around to sorting out getting my weather data online yet it may take me some time!

By the way in case your interested, the vid doesn't load on safari on my mac, but works fine in google chrome on xp. Not sure if other mac users would have the same issue as a lot seem to use firefox nowdays.

I have uploaded a couple more timelapse movies, the star trail one didn't work out very good as it is a lot darker when compressed, although hopefully it looks half decent.

Great work, Tim. I've been a fan of timelapse ever since I saw the 1950's BBC film of the train journey from London to Brighton in 4 minutes.

I've just finished uploading the November time-lapse from my DSLR webcam and one I shot at night on 4th June 2009. I've attached the combined star trail image for that one.

Woah, nice one skywatcher, especially love the month long ones! I like the superwide angle lens you used for the mountain star trail shot too, shows so much sky!

Manukau heads obs: with that feature does the camera have to have a webcam feature with its software? I read somewhere that any digital camera can be used as a webcam as long as it came with software that allows it to be controlled from the computer. I have an old fujipix f410 that I was hoping to use but since I can't find the original software nor find out if it has that feature I don't think I can use it.

WD includes the software to get the image from the camera and into a time stamped file to be used for the movie images
all automatic

Hey Tim, on your first timelapse of lenticular clouds, how often did you take a pic ?

every 10 seconds for a total of 360 shots, ie. 1 hour. I find any longer than 10 seconds gets a bit jumpy at 15 frames/sec, though of course it depends how quick the clouds are moving and how close they are.

Love that time lapse Tim! Certainly very hard to see with the naked eye.

Here's one I haven't put on the forum yet. Time lapse of an active pulse storm over Cooinda, NT from Adelaide River. Shots were taken at f/2.8 at around 8 seconds each.

Now that is cool! wowzers, great work Foggy! how many positive strikes did that thing put out?! I lost count around a dozen or so! Which is probably about as many I've seen from all the storms in WOzzie.

When storms over there start spitting out positive strike they really spit them out as I witnessed quite a good demonstration whilst driving down the Stuart Highway.
