That headline is complete and utter rubbish! I see Grey Lynn had a max gust of 48km/h, I recorded max 40km/h, St Heliers 45km/h. Being inside, the wind today was barely noticeable.

Typical media probably saw the large wind gusts on the Manukau heads and dramatised it for effect

The Hurunui must be bloody high as well as i can hear it this morning which is only possible when its really high.

Ended up with 16mm from that event,not enough to be useful as today's heat will evaporate it but it means i now move the sprinklers every 12 hours stead of 24 for a day or so.

well, it was a hum dinger NWer here, gusts to 115kmh during heavy rain
strongest winds since september here
I know of a group of campers at the local beach who had to pack up and leave during all that!

alot of the Franklin area would have had Gales (I know Waiuku did) for a time

the Hauraki gulf islands would have had gales too at some stage I would think
the Auckland city Isthmus often has the NW wind split around it the waitakere ranges
but note that the Auckland area extends beyond the Auckland Isthmus
(we are now part of the Super city here on the Manukau heads!)

I was in Pelorus Sound for this one, ended up stuck for an extra day whilst the roads were cleared (all of them!) and still have to return home via Nelson. It was like Fiordland rain, over 200mm where we were at Wakaretu Bay

whoo amazing,funny thing is that heavy stuff didn't show up on the radar,i just couldnt help myself during the night but to get up heaps of times for a look at the Sky weather channel,the yellow was as heavy as it got according to what i saw,it must have been because the cloud base was rather low, that's why it didn't show up i think.
