Cumulus Producing Lightning?
I saw this vid a while back and forgot to book mark the URL.
I found it again, and it features Waren fadleys footage.
If you Lunch the Youtube video here:
Move towards 3.38 On the time buffer and youll be amazed what this rather small looking towering cumulus puts out
There must have been some very steep lapse rates to get it to do that.

Re: Cumulus Producing Lightning?
Thats a very photogenic cb! Looks like the type of storm that occurs in Arizona with a very high base which I guess makes the cb look a bit smaller. The very high temperatures and lower humidity means the LCL is very high and the storm base would be well above 10,000ft. Nice clip.

Re: Cumulus Producing Lightning?
Looked like a T/Cu to me as it didnt have an anvil on it nor did it look like it reached the tropopause.
Hmm, perhaps it was the camera which made it look small?

Re: Cumulus Producing Lightning?
The cb in the clip does show a bit of an anivl if you look closely. There is an overshooting top punching the tropopause giving it a cumulus appearance. Dusk can be a deceiving time for viewing clouds. 03Stormchasers pic looking to be punching the trop as well.

Thunderstorm so Cb cloud there.
Cb can have Cu form look to it. In the clip we are looking at the storm from the Cu develoment side, you can see the more classic Cb anvil on the other side.

Re: Cumulus Producing Lightning?
Hang on, apparently Americans could call it a Thundershower so it 'could be' a cumulus, LOLspwill wrote:Thunderstorm so Cb cloud there.
