Re: General January Weather
Great addition and like the 5 hottest cities idea, but how about some figures with those graphs, i.e. we seem to have lost yesterdays T-min.David wrote:check out the new past data feature on metservice http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/auckland
Also, winds change throughout the day, so how about at least four wind-arrows for each day, instead of just one?

Theres figures if you run the mouse over them, just no cross reference on the x-y axis I guess.Be good if you can compare all though.

Just noticed this on the graphs:
I think the graphs are a nice addition, though I think its making something graphical that doesn't need to be, its still good to see metservice are willing to keep their website constantly evolving.
that explains why rainfall totals are split between days!Rain: The total rainfall that fell during the calendar day.

Re: MetService Website (2011)
Yes the new graphs are good but some of the data is wrong. They have a graph for Fairlie and under the historic data for last year it says our coldest temp was -4.6 which is way out I recoreded -8 and weather station up at the high school which is has a stevenson screen and is located in a ideal area recorded -9. I would like to know were they get there data from as apart from the high school station i didnt think that Fairlie had a weather station. The rainfall data seen accurate though it is very simalar to what I have recorded.

NIWA's CliFlo database lists all the stations, and their type (manual, AWS etc), and locations, years active, etc. It is free to use this database and can be found on NIWAs website.snowstormwatcher wrote:I would like to know were they get there data from as apart from the high school station i didnt think that Fairlie had a weather station.

CliFlo shows Fairlie AWS, started Aug 2009. Prior to that there were stations running from 1911-1978, 1978-1990 and 1993-2008. Sunshine was also measured at the oldest site(s) 1925-1946.Tahii wrote:NIWA's CliFlo database lists all the stations, and their type (manual, AWS etc), and locations, years active, etc. It is free to use this database and can be found on NIWAs website.snowstormwatcher wrote:I would like to know were they get there data from as apart from the high school station i didnt think that Fairlie had a weather station.

Bit hard to work out what going on the MS website sometimes,on the 'Yesterday's Weather Extremes chart for Friday 20/5/11, they have (1) Gisborne Airport 19.4C,(2) Blenheim Airport 19C,(3) Farewell Spit 19 C(4) Hastings 18.9°C (5) Masterton Airport 18 C, in yet accordingly to there own recordings Culverden was 20.4C but never made it to the list. Also the Culverden site hasn't shown any rainfall since 27th April.

Re: MetService Website (2011)
Fair comment Richard. I noticed this before with both minima and maxima (bearing in mind that overnight minima based on calender-day obs can generally be more problematic than those based on 24 hr obs to 9am).Richard wrote:Bit hard to work out what going on the MS website sometimes,on the 'Yesterday's Weather Extremes chart for Friday 20/5/11, they have (1) Gisborne Airport 19.4C,(2) Blenheim Airport 19C,(3) Farewell Spit 19 C(4) Hastings 18.9°C (5) Masterton Airport 18 C, in yet accordingly to there own recordings Culverden was 20.4C but never made it to the list...
I wonder if that particular list is limited to towns with a certain minimum population requirement (and subsequent level of interest for those site's web-pages)?

They are a selection of larger centres, with the exception of Port Taharoa.

A week ago i sent MS an email mentioning that Culverden is not showing any rainfall readings and was told they'll get onto it, but i see its still not showing the 30+mm that fall a few days ago.

Re: MetService Website (2011)
Anyone else using Firefox 4 have the problem where only one day forecast shows up and all the other 9 days are missing? Just started happening today.
And the rain radar loop player is acting strangely too. Pause the loop and start clicking the next arrow. Once you hit next to see the most recent image, instead of showing the most recent image it starts playing the loop from the start.

OK seems they have added something into their site that causes problems when Ad Block is enabled. Disabling Ad Block on their site fixed the forecast problem, but still there is that odd little thing going on with the radar looper.

Re: MetService Website (2011)
They still haven't fixed this problem,a email was sent and the MS replied back saying they'll get onto it.But i see its still faulty, not only is it still not showing the rainfall amounts but yesterdays temp in Culverden should be in the list of centers in Yesterday's Weather ExtremesRichard wrote:Bit hard to work out what going on the MS website sometimes,on the 'Yesterday's Weather Extremes chart for Friday 20/5/11, they have (1) Gisborne Airport 19.4C,(2) Blenheim Airport 19C,(3) Farewell Spit 19 C(4) Hastings 18.9°C (5) Masterton Airport 18 C, in yet accordingly to there own recordings Culverden was 20.4C but never made it to the list. Also the Culverden site hasn't shown any rainfall since 27th April.

Re: MetService Website (2011)
Yeah might also email them about the temperatures recorded at the Fairlie station as well, Some of the minimum temperatures are 4-5 degrees warmer than what I record. Even the overnight lows at Timaru are colder,I know the station is located at Kimbell which is in a warm spot but It still it should be much colder than Timaru given that Timaru is at 50m asl while Kimbell is close to 400m asl.
