General February Weather
Appears as if February for the first week is a springlike pattern, maybe last November was transposed for February given the warm month then.Maybe that cyclone has re energised the westerly belt and extended it earlier which tends to happen in autumn?

Re: General February Weather
Blimmin Heck, I hope February produces some storms.
We havnt had storms since early December, I think I am going with withdrawal symptoms!
Upper air is far too warm, moisture isnt a problem its just the upper air, arggggg!

Re: General February Weather
Yes Tim, a bit of a frustrating summer for thunderstorm chasers. I'm hoping we can get rid of La Nina for winter.LOL
Pattern for the start of February looks a bit zonal and ridgy, good for drizzle in these parts.

Re: General February Weather
Looks like a very warm mass coming onto the North Island from Wednesday. 850mb 18C. Should get very hot in Gisborne/Napier maybe BOP as well. The high 850mb temperatures produce an inversion so could end up getting a lot of stratocumulus over western areas.

Re: General February Weather
Our dewpoint temperatures are going to rise so atleast it will feel warmer, currently calm, high overcast, 18C, dewpoint on the low side for Auckland at 14C. February is our warmest month although I see for southern and eastern parts of NZ January is the warmest month in the averages
The weather interest this week will be with the Cyclone crossing the Qld Coast around Thursday morning.

Cool night here down to 3.1 degrees at 6am this morning. Looking like a nice day though blue skies just some thin high cloud to the far north/northeast currently 7 degrees.

Re: General February Weather
The light NW wind over night kept it from going any lower than 12C,no doubt though this wind will build during the day.

Re: General February Weather
Agree- after the coolest start in a while its a stunner out there today. NW will ramp the temps back into the 30's region next couple of days by the looks of things- feels quite autumnal in a funny sort of way with those high diurnal tempsCHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Think we will get more than the original forecast high of 21 degrees. Re: General February Weather
Moderate southwest breeze here at the moment, 55% humidity, 17.5 degrees; the few clouds are also coming from west or southwest; haze/dust/mist in distance. Pressure is dropping sufficiently quickly to activate the 'storm warning' on my little device.

Tomorrow Wednesday should be a very hot day for Gisborne. Potential there for the temperature to top 35C.

Re: General February Weather
Some elevated storms west of Fiordland by the looks. Must be a warm front moving in down there.
Ive added the mixing ratio chart to show the warm front near Fiordland and right up the west of the country. Will bring a change to higher dps for the country.

Re: General February Weather
I just amended my post on top of yours Tim. Warm fronts are good for elevated storms.
