Re: General February Weather
Very boring month weather wise. going to be a very dry month too! Only 11mm so far and doesn't look anything substantial for the rest of the month. Shouldnt get more than 20mm for the month.

Re: General February Weather
18mm here for the month so far in which 15mm fell on one of the days. Looking ahead though the system that coms through overnight Monday through to Wednesday looks like it could deliver the most rainfall from a single system this summer for Canterbury. Possibly up to 50mm in some areas.

Certainly plenty of convergence happening today. Wind has changed direction here several times. Just gone NW, taking the temp up to 25C.spwill wrote:Good to have the humid weather back.

Nothing like the 88/89 La Nina here (or in plenty of other places actually) - much cloudier this time, with less true NE flow. In the 88/89 one, Wellington outscored Nelson for sun over the summer - this time Nelson is miles ahead. This one is also somewhat cooler locally.

Re: General February Weather
With this current La Nina the pattern in the south Tasman has remained very mobile which has kept the SI West Coast wet and temperatures fairly normal over the South Island/lower NI.
Looks like muggy conditions for Auckland until the SW change arrives on Wednesday. My forecast max today is 27C.
Will be interesting to see how much longer this current cyclone season will last. Certainly has been active.

I dont think it will stay tropical this far as has, cold air will invade as we all see the W belts closer and it will extroptropical them north of us/extend them as they are captured though expect lots of activity this autumn due to cold and warm air mixing,is what I reckon will happen so it may be an interesting autumn and early winter for stormy weather those it find it that way.

Re: General February Weather
With a strong La Nina February you would bet on the north east of NZ being wet and inland Canterbury being dry.Richard wrote:And a very dry Feb this side of NZ too,but hey whats new about that in North Canterbury

Warm and muggy here at the moment currently 28 degrees with a dewpint of 16. Certianly has been a more humid summer than normal for this area. Looking foward to a few cooler days coming up this week.

Re: General February Weather
Warm here today, up to 31.3 at one stage but dropping away now, 28.6 degrees & 37% humidity. Wind strong to high, has been nor'west but very much round to the west for the last hour. Sunlight hasn't been all that bright, plenty of cloud or general overcast: clearing a bit now.

Re: General February Weather
Darn.
I was hoping for a good dollop of rain overnight but now it is likely to be only south of the Rakaia River
Mind you the onions are ready for harvesting

Re: General February Weather
Yep sure has been sunny of late here, over 200hrs for the month to date and over 700hrs for the summer to date, nice beach weather. Very dry though with only 5.6mm in the gauge so far this month.RWood wrote:Nothing like the 88/89 La Nina here (or in plenty of other places actually) - much cloudier this time, with less true NE flow. Re: General February Weather
I see Whangaparaoa North Auckland has had less than 3mm so far for Feb, nearly 300mm fell there in January.
Greylynn showing 10.6mm, Ak Airport 16mm.
Tropical system Atu comes quite close to NZ but the High south of Oz always looked like it would keep it out.
