I'm very grieved to know this has happened. Felt here, noisy and rattling, also another felt here 1.04pm and dang it all, just now, very disorienting sharp jolt.

Yes Jamie... felth the first one at 1251 as a mag 5 here in greymouth.. and that aftershock 5 mins ago was very similar but not as long lasting.. enough to make me hang onto the bar here & hold the plasma screen from toppling over..

Family in CHCH as far as i know are ok... this is not going to be pretty, be prepared for some very bad and disturbing news.

Reports are pretty much correct there Willo... cant believe still feeling the aftershocks even over here on the west coast. That was massive :(
Big different to sept 4.. i was up there at the time, the RSA in sumner if youve seen the videos has boulders the size of it on top.. huge ice calving from aoraki.. I was only joking the other day how cool it would be to go through a little tremor while im down here but im not so sure now.

Yes. I was at work in Halswell when it occured. Rushed outside and actually felt the earth move.
Lots of continuous rumblings underneath with the occasional shuddering until the next aftershock and after shocks.
Quite impressive though. I'd give it 6 out of ten

Was working at the Christchurch Convention Centre right in the CBD at the time and I thought i was going to die! I am so terrified and scared! I dont know how I am going to sleep tonight or for a while. I cant understand how this can happen so long after the event!! Aftershocks continue to come every 5 minutes or so. I still have power here in Halswell. 65 dead :(

My heart and prayers goes out to those still under the rubble tonight, and i hope like many that the death toll doesnt rise.
I am still up in kaiteriteri but will be heading home as i have no idea what our home is like, it already had minor damge to the foundation walls etc from the smaller quakes over the past 5 and half months.
Aftershocks keep coming i see all around from port hills to diamond harbour port levy etc, thoughts again with those down in canterbury and a return to the sight tomorrow.
