Yeah that was a doozy of a shake.. felt it clean here on the coast, not as vicious as the 22nd but it certainly had this place rockin and rolling.

A long rumbly shudder here but the tipping indicators remained in place.

An extraordinary "lifting" sensation here followed by the rattling sash-window. Unpleasant.

Didn't feel it here in westport thank god. Surprised it got to you dale. For a 5.3 that's a little concerning to be felt on other side island. The alpine therefore doesn't go thinking about.

This could be the third major aftershock from the "Initial" on Sept 4th?
...with the series of quakes along faults, moving east/SE. :-k

Yes this one was a bit further east on the faultline 11km deep a little deeper than many of them too. I noticed last week there was one 80km away from CHCH out to sea! Oh and another that was 50km deep which surprised me as all the rest are mainly 3-12km deep.

Oh and it would have to happen today of all dates!

Sure felt the one on the 22nd and subsequent aftershocks so my initial thought at 1750 was oh crap.. thats gonna hurt wherever that was centred.. so yes, I am rather surprised that it was only a 5.3

Was just walking in the house, may have felt a tiny jolt if was sitting but it certainly wasnt a clean rock and roll of the house or anything like you are describing. Although, I am pretty immune to them all now. Its become the 'norm' in CHCH society i guess you could say.

Yeah as it would be, Mum went through the september one so she alerted me to the fact it was happening before I realised the place was rocking.. but to feel them here I generally know Chch took another hit.

Had a 4.1 jolt after 8pm tonight, just a string of aftershocks to come following the 5.3 so i bet much of christchurch will be on edge so to speak tonight.
I see the north island has also had a jolt very recently not in yet, but looks in the high 4's .

Relativly quiet night after the 8pm jolt, but heard lots of rumbles during the night in the ground.
Heres a video which shows the power behind both the 5.1 magnitude aftershock on march 20th and the 5.3 magnitude yesterday.

Two jolts within 10 minutes earlier on, although only felt the second one at home.
First one at 1:21pm- 3.3 magnitude hillsborough heathcote valley
Second one at 1:31pm- 4.1 magnitude offshore South New Brighton

Ive also been hearing alot of strong thuds in the ground today, alot of people up Darfeild way have reported dozens of them even rattling the house slightly.
Anyone know what it is whether its the earth or maybe the army doing something without warning the public?

Felt the 1:20pm one at work but not the stronger one at 1:30pm as I was probably getting into the car to come home. Yes. I have felt a few of those "thuds" as well this afternoon. 8-o

Just had another rumble and tiny jolt roll through kaiapoi, in the garage even the ladder rattled on the wall could be a local magnitude 2 or something seeing as its not shown on the drums.
Ive heard more booms in the ground too since my last post.
