Otago/Canterbury weather watchers should keep an eye on Sundays weather with the chance of pm thunder/hail as that southerly change comes in.

Re: General March Weather
Probably come in the morning and result in nothing. Mind you it's still La Nina and we don't get thunderstorms in La Nina periods here in Canterbury. Mind you we have had enough rumblings from below instead from above.NZstorm wrote: Otago/Canterbury weather watchers should keep an eye on Sundays weather with the chance of pm thunder/hail as that southerly change comes in.

Re: General March Weather
Misty wet morning in Auckland with temp20C/dp19C.
Tomorrows thunder chances over the NI will possibly be Taranaki and Hawkes Bay way where the upper air is a bit cooler. To warm aloft up this way.

Re: General March Weather
Not much in the way of rain here today, just patchy light drizzle (decent rain cleared before 9am). Real dull looking
Re: General March Weather
Been raining steadily now for the last 15 minutes with some heavy falls at the beginning and the middle. Now slowly turning back to drizzle.

Re: General March Weather
We had a short, must of been isolated, sharp shower that woke me up around 1:30am this morning which I see is not recorded elsewhere ? Must of been very local. 0.7mm in about 30 seconds. Nothing much really, but quite a good dump here.

Re: General March Weather
Well some heavy showers overnight in westport and constant drizzle since day break with very still conditions and very humid/muggy. 99% humidity and 19 degrees. Drizzle has been quite thick. Stopped just in the last 20 mins for the first time today. I see 28 degrees back home in CHCH

Re: General March Weather
Some very brief bursts of rain between 12:30am-2:30am with a quake thrown in, any ideas on how good the storm chances are here tomorrow?.
MS have a low risk from north canterbury to marlborough, i guess the main thing will be whether we get any heating beforehand but otherwise a decent strong slow moving front which could bring us some reasonable rainfall.

Re: General March Weather
Steady rain in Runanga since last night, breaking to moderate showers this morning and now some barely detectable drizzle with the odd patch of sunshine thrown in to make things rather sticky.. not minding it one bit, good excuse to laze about today

Re: General March Weather
well, we definitely have the heat - 28 deg right now in city, Nor-Wester
I love the chch webcam - its basically a live streaming controllable camera where you can look out over the plains. Those look like a couple of blowups out NW there.

Re: General March Weather
Awesome, Tim, lucky you! Rain has been too light to even register a rain-rate on my weather console - averaging about 0.2-0.4 mm per hour through the day. I guess this warm gentle rain will make the recently mowed lawns grow madly...

Re: General March Weather
I'd been wondering whether there might be a storm about, though I was looking more at the line of cloud that appeared to be steaming along the coast (to the southeast) an hour ago.
Have just been outside and looked: in the west-to-southwest, a very impressive cloud, outlined by the setting sun so a brilliantly-lit edge to the purple-grey cloud, obscuring Mt Peel altogether for us.
Has been very humid here all day, from 85% down to 66% and back up to 71% at present; 16 degrees at the moment.
Surprised to see it had been nor'west in Chch - winds all round the compass here really.

Misty in Auckland tonight and the precip has stopped.
Looking at todays forecast data the risk tomorrow looks in the low category but there is certainly a risk there for the plains. Just need to get some heating but the forecast high cloud tomorrow won't help.any ideas on how good the storm chances are here tomorrow?
