I see the strong cold southerly has gone through Timaru. Should be here by 6pm. I don't think the current NE blowing here will put up much of a resisitence, sadly.
Noticed too some red dots on the radar but way out to sea.

A burst of very strong winds just roaring through here, trees tossing, chimney booming, roofing-iron creaking and squeaking; spots of rain also.
Temp. now 15.1 degrees & "storm-warning" flashing on Tesa.

Raining hard now, 12.5 degrees; most unpleasant and rackety, haven't heard any thunder, don't know if I would unless it was nearby!

Winds turned strong SW here in westport just under an hour ago. Had a few showers, one heavy one. No Thunder, not much to write home about.

Southerly change has just hit town, can't see much except very fast moving low cloud, starting to rain now.

Image

Pretty sharp squall line there, that other patch of rain ahead of it was moving from the NW toward SE

A few thunderstorms nearer the foothills for Canterbury.

A line of showers formed over Auckland harbour late afternoon and drifted away toward Coromandel, some quite nice Cu build ups.

MetServices's High Resolution RR shows a good example of the 'Wall' moving across

The cloud base here is about 20m from our house and dropping. Dark clouds rolling in but no rain visible in the distance. Wind is also increasing slightly coming from the SSW

Just turned 'puter back on after much lightning activity audible on radio between 6 - 7pm.
Still raining, wind still gusty but not quite so ferocious; 9.0 degrees.

Very stormy here, had almost forgotten what a southerly was like!!
Friends tree fell over and smashed there fence, more than likely the roots had been weakened due to the earthquake.

Mild night tonight.

Looking forward, looks like a weak front coming through.

A windy night continues here in Westport. Metservice site for westport broke down on their readings after 1pm. I see back home 14mm in Christchurch in a couple of hours. The metservice rain radars are not updating quickly at all, also, the 2 hour resolution one has crapped out with 7:15pm the last reading [-X

Some of the streets around the city must be struggling to cope, particuarly in eastern areas.
