General March Weather

Unread post by NZstorm »

First day of autumn today according to the meteorological calender. Temperature is 14c in Grey Lynn this morning which is cool compared to what we were getting in Feb. Looks like a very warm airmass will cross the country next 24hrs.

Looks like there will be a low thunderstorm risk with tomorrows front over the west and north of the NI. Isolated storms will occur out to sea and may make landfall. Sfc dps 18c with the front.

Humid 19C dewpoints now and 23C, March is generally warmer than December for the north and west of NZ.

Weather pattern is looking more lazy next week, what we expect this time of the year.

The high forming in the Tasman behind these lows looks like it will stop the NI from being rather wet. Here in Christchurch another very nice day, the aftershock rate per hour is higher than the wind speed most the morning. 25 degrees and steady for the past 2 hours or so. Have high cloud about with a very light easterly. Maybe a couple more degrees on top once the cloud pushes east and the E tend N-NW.

Still 21C here, 17dp.
Looks like NZ will be on the cool side of a High for much of next week.

Has it been 4 or 5 months since a central Tasman Front fired up like this (TStorms) ?

Breeze strong at times, seems to be backing to westerly. Cloud and overcast coming across with some rain; smells very 'rainy' (an "ozone" smell?); barometer still dropping; 57% humidity; 21.6 degrees.

Yes, you could see the big T/cu around yesterday. Air was cool and unstable at lower levels.

Looks unstable along that front in the Tasman this morn with a lot of overnight lightning activity. Front looks to weaken by the time it gets to Auckland this evening but Taranaki may get some action.

Looks like there is the chance of embedded thunderstorms due to a active cold front crossing Saturday.

Will have to see how the models firm this up......
