Was very brief for awhile there but definatly sleet, well and truly setting in for a cold night.
7 degrees Seems a bit warm for sleet doesnt normally sleet unless its below 4 degrees.
Heavy rain here now with 9mm so far. Currently 8 degrees.

It's down to 7.6 degrees here so far; rain's got much heavier and noisier in the last ten minutes.
(Re the sleet, I have to say, I wondered what was looking smudgy in among the raindrops on the window around mid-afternoon. Anything's possible: in the past have seen isolated dry-looking snowflakes fall from a great height while it was 6 deg. on the ground.)

Only had 4mm here. Some surface flooding from drains blocked around the city by leaves and obviously with the earthquake. May get some chain shower activity on the back end of the front which can often bring about more precipitation than a general rain band. Been patchy light rain here past couple of hours or so.

City seems to be getting sheltered from this band. BP northwards along to the coast. Shows this well on the 2hr HS radar.

Rain starting to pick up here now. Seems we may have a chance of a brief heavy burst for the next 30mins to hour before the band passes through.

Radar showing some significant rain approaching town
EDIT just as I type that torrential rain here in Cracroft now. Thumping down on the roof, gutters overflowing almost as heavy as it gets here!

20mm here overall since late yesterday, some heavy showers laced with hail through the night, and had a 3.4 right under our feet in the middle of some of the hail. Oh the fun!

Indeed. Heard both rather easily. The 3.4 was rather loud as was the hail. Anyways conditions have improved remarkably since 630am. Some very good chain shower activity at that time. The showers have moved away quicker than forecast. Although there may be some more showers to move back in later this morning before it finally moves away to the east.

Something that I was unaware of until now. Just looking at the rainfall totals to this day 2011 vs 2010. This year currently at 185mm for the year where as this time last year 110m. Seems it has been a warmer, but wetter start to the year.

Might have a frost tonight, dp dropping fairly fast and temp dropping by 1.2°C/hr.
But thats dependent on the wind dropping off.

Yes looking like a frost here also down to 3.9 degrees now. Although there has been the odd gust of wind which may prevent it getting too much colder.

Wind has dropped significantly here and temp down to 9C in Howick.
I see Grey Lynn is still on 12C with a SSW breeze blowing.
