Re: Trough 4-5 April
I cant believe M/S has no risk for Waikato tomorrow, the forecast soundings are blindingly obvious yet no risk at all?
They have fixed their convective outllook with the evening update.

Metservice forecast for Invercargill was totally wrong for today/tonight. It was cool and dry with long sunny spells and at the moment, it's a clear starry evening with a light breeze.

Went to Chch and back from Oamaru . Rained all the way up and all the way back . Heavy rain south of Templeton as we headed home at dusk . Driving conditions quite bad . Saw two nose to tail prangs involving trucks too . 27 mm in my Oamaru gauge since 0900 this morning . Still occasional showers as I type this

10mm rain here in the early hours. Not too cold this morning with 13C, hardly any wind which surprised me...

Re: Trough 4-5 April
CB's are weakening as they move in from the west
so the upper cold pool is still offshore here at the moment
but they are looking stronger to the south of me, with some blown off tops even

Re: Trough 4-5 April
Near Gale conditions recorded here in that last squall, gusts to 46 kts, averaging 30 knots
Ricky and I put up a new wind turbine here by the house in the weekend (smaller, 1 kw)
getting a good work out, was sending 1.5kw!
was a bit scary in that squall seeing the leeward guy wire go a bit slack....put in the brake switch and tightened up the windward guy wires a bit !

Re: Trough 4-5 April
looks like the cold pool is very near the coast now . have had some heavy squalls come through already this morning.
i finally got a haircut (10months since last one) on the weekend and now my ears are exposed and they are not finding the colder weather very nice. need to put a beanie on 24/7

Re: Trough 4-5 April
Pretty uninteresting here so far, lol
Peak wind gusts around 40kph, showers so far have been very brief and barely enough to register in rain gauge.

Re: Trough 4-5 April
Dropped about 5 degrees as it went through, sun is coming back out now, looks to be fairly clear skys behind it.

Re: Trough 4-5 April
Was walking outside, nice and sunny/warm then a heavy shower came past freezing cold outside in Orewa now all the school kids are complaining about it! Had about 5 showers that were very heavy for 2 minutes, some roads were flooded for 10 minutes but now most is gone, the odd heavy shower comes past now and then.

Re: Trough 4-5 April
Had about 10 seconds of small hailstones here followed by a light to moderate shower. Pretty darn cold for April...12C at present, though it reached 18C earlier
Re: Trough 4-5 April
14.1C and 22.8mm of rain since last night. It was a whole lot colder at Orewa then here at my house. Winds aren't too bad about 33.1km/h
