Easter Weather
Early indications are for a mostly fine start to the Easter holiday period but with an increasing cloud /rain threat for the southwest of the South Island.

Re: Easter Weather
Looks like some rain/showers develop in the west of the SI on Friday with a trough crossing NZ over the weekend so a mix of weather for most places, cooler SE flow by monday but E/NE over the north of NZ with rain monday.

Re: Easter Weather
The models are all over the show with this weekend. Its consistent in showing that the West Coast of the SI will have a period of heavy rain. However, uncertainty remains over rainfall over the NI. It depends on whether the Tasman Sea low and the subtropical low meet. The models are starting to agree on this somewhat and therefore Waikato Northwards could be in for some sustained heavy rain. Something to keep a look out for.

Re: Easter Weather
Looks more certain now we'll have a wet easter break in the north, patchy rain from Saturday night. The only positive thing is that we'll be in a mild air flow.

Re: Easter Weather
Sure is looking like an extended wet period, lasting beyond Easter too. 12Z GFS has 88mm rain from Sat-Wed.NZstorm wrote:Looks more certain now we'll have a wet easter break in the north, patchy rain from Saturday night. The only positive thing is that we'll be in a mild air flow.
It's one of those La Nina weather patterns we haven't really had so far - mainly had our rain in heavy short bursts.

had a light shower first thing from a easterly surge shower line...looks to be another shower line out there , not sure if that will make it this far west though , for later in the day?

Re: Easter Weather
Looks to be a chance of a shower for Auckland this afternoon in the NE flow, more likely in the east though.
The front in the Tasman weakens as it approaches the North Island but the gfs suggests some development in the subtropics to our N later in the weekend. Warm air advection will bring persistent rain into Northland Sunday and the rest of the upper north Monday. Heavy falls look possible.

Re: Easter Weather
had a decent heavy shower move across me 30 minutes ago, watched as it moved over the harbour and onto the waitaks. good looking inflow. also just watched a balloon fly over our house towards it at a fair clip.
