Looks like the good weather of recent days has come to an end. Light rain here with a cold southeasterly wind. Currently 7.1 degrees.

Sure is an interesting weather week ahead for the North Island and the subtropical low at the end of this week into next weekend has been very consistant from a long way out with the model runs also. I think somewhere like Tauranga could see a big rain event from this one. Currently they have already had 31mm with the bulk of that in the last 2 hours. The band moving in to the west of the upper NI at the moment could bring some very heavy falls provided it keeps the intensity its showing.

Yes, I'm quite concerned and yesterday cleaned drains etc.

I'm hoping it won't come to it, but historically in the last 15 odd years since the urban growth hit this suburb hard with all the subdivision of sections and increased runoff, this is the time of the year we flood.

Council has done a lot of work however and fingers crossed with the improved drainage above us and the stormwater man hole cover that came off just above us now bolted down we may be ok.

Just did a follow up check on this Thunderstorm around New Caledonia:

This is what the storm looked like on Nasa MODIS Aqua Satellite!
Screen shot 2011-04-25 at 11.05.51 AM.jpg
This thing was massive, appears to have been a very large multi-cell storm, no wonder why our Bolteks where picking it up well!
Right by the storms anvil is New Caledonia, now that gives you some perspective on how huge this thing was!

Had what I would describe as 'Torrential Drizzle' here in the past half hour or so. Gutters filling up quickly from it. Back to light stuff again now.

Surprisingly dry here so far today. Just a few annoying spots of rain much of the day. According to Metservice the heaviest is due to arrive from 9pm.

Weather has eased here now and much higher cloud to the south now. Got some big sporadic drops at times too which surprised me a little.

'Torrential Drizzle' is back in CHCH but the radar doesnt seem to show this. The cloud must be below the radar beam.

A quiet night on the forum tonight considering what is forecast for up there. Hoping to hear the 'goings-on' since the radars are out. Very still with intermittent drizzle/light rain here continuing.

Annoying how the rain radars have stopped updating since the 5pm update :(

Anyone know a workaround?

24mm so far here today, about 2/3 of that in the last three hours.

A workaround?
How about free access to all us website owners to the radar images, then when metservice site stops updating the rest of us can carry on providing the data.

It's been raining steadily here for the last couple of hours. Yet the rain gauge is showing nothing. Some really big worms have come up from the ground and are going up and down our drive way, lots of fun for the dogs (not).
