Re: Easter Weather
The 10pm image doesn't suggest to me that another 50-80mm could fall tonight...Nev wrote:The Akld, Wgtn and Chch radars are still being updated on Weatherzone.co.nz
Easing back here, 34mm since midnight.

Re: Easter Weather
nearly at 50mm total here now (at 11pm)
and still raining steadily, and baro still dropping steadily
rain radar shows the system has been slowing down its southward movement, so still lots of rain to come (there is warnings out)

Re: Easter Weather
as I suspected, areas closer to the waitakere ranges would have got higher amounts118mm in Laingholm for 24hrs to 8am.
so that validates the warnings put out David

Re: Easter Weather
The warning was for all of Auckland. Is Laingholm near the top of the ranges? Seems odd it supposedly has way higher totals than other areas much of the time. Someone I personally know who lives in the waitakere ranges, surrounded by bush, recorded 53mm for the event.Manukau heads obs wrote:as I suspected, areas closer to the waitakere ranges would have got higher amounts118mm in Laingholm for 24hrs to 8am.

Re: Easter Weather
Interestingly Ricky has a rising temperature and little wind at the moment
we have a decresing temperature and increasing wind, and its still thick drizzle
the low looks to be passing right over the auckland city area now?

Re: Easter Weather
no, its at the start , SE end, but will be getting orographic liftIs Laingholm near the top of the ranges?
they live on the NW end, i.e behind the main ranges in a E or SE rain event, and so will be in a rain shadowSomeone I personally know who lives in the waitakere ranges, surrounded by bush, recorded 53mm for the event
Howick is between the Waitakere and Hunua ranges and so is in a rain basin (shadow) area
the rain warnings will be for the worst areas of the region
Re: Easter Weather
39mm from this rain event, not much but then again heaviest falls were expected in east Auckland. Very thick drizzle and fog makes everything very wet outside.

Re: Easter Weather
huge difference from here
its only 12.3C here and wind increasing, gusting to 36 knots
and thick drizzle
sure is a compact low centre !

Re: Easter Weather
the rain radar suggests the Low center has now stalled over the Auckland city area (i.e Auckland city is on the southern fringe of the low that extends to the north into southern northland)
it might start to back track a bit now?
(as the models predict)

Re: Easter Weather
Extremely foggy here had two helicopters and a few airplanes really low over our house today, thick drizzle still here and conditions becoming really bad with thicker fog. Can only see about 10-20 meters in front of you without the drizzle with drizzle probably less then 10 meters.

I see that from after midnight yesterday to 9am this morn (33 hrs), Akld Aero had recorded 98mm, while NIWA's Pukekohe site was at 112mm ... and it's still raining.
EDIT: Tauranga Aero was also up to a whopping 143.4mm by 9am.

Re: Easter Weather
eventful day at work so far. light truck and trailer was flipped right outside work from the wind. car park at work was flooded due to leaves blocking all the drains, and now a tree has fallen across the road outside work blocking both lanes.
Im off to Taupo for the night this afternoon. hoping to see some more eventful weather realted things.
