Re: General May Weather
The Fog is refusing to budge so far here.
Yea that front looks good but no storms on it so far, perhaps it might fire later on in the day.

Re: General May Weather
MS severe weather outlook map looks impressive. possibly needs a topic of its own. going to be some serious rain by the sounds of things.

Re: General May Weather
Talked to dad. He said the fog was thick as all day. Didn't lift at all. I thought that was the case when I looked at the days graph. DP and temp didn't pull apart at all. In Hamilton and close to Tims place it finally cleared at about 2. Getting foggy in Hamilton again now and still foggy in horsham downs

Re: General May Weather
Appears that the Metservice site is not operating. Latest rain radar updates are all 7pm and the latest observations on the home page have been the same for last 2 hours also. 3 day charts are not showing either...

Re: General May Weather
Tomorrows front could have a bit of a bite with it. While the prefrontal airmass doesn't look overly unstable there is good moisture and lift there and forecast sounding indicates embedded convection possible. Also looks to be a low tornado risk/severe squall for the Bay of Plenty. And dps's tomorrow will be around 18C over the North Island.

Re: General May Weather
Absolutely thundering down rain here this morning, you would swear it is still 3am its so dark outside.
If this keep up, highly likely I will crack 1m for the month!

Re: General May Weather
far out that would be insane. Has any populated place in NZ got 1m of rain in a month before?Dale Small wrote:If this keep up, highly likely I will crack 1m for the month!

Re: General May Weather
No idea this end.. perhaps Nev or RWood could elaborate?
Note that I am about 8km north of Greymouth & somewhat sandwiched in between 2 ranges with the Spring Creek mine just up the street (for bearings sake) .. my gauge is reliable. I have been comparing readings with another mate in Grey himself & generally we are on par with each other.

Re: General May Weather
Its not uncommon for rain gauges in the hills from Greymouth and Hoki to have a metre in a week. Don't panic, its just autumn on the coast!jamie.haultain wrote:far out that would be insane. Given the model variation for next week I would put very little trust in next weekends weather modelingqueens birthday weekend

Re: General May Weather
Yet a couple of hours down the road here it got down to 2.8 degrees overnight and its still only 5 degrees with thick high cloud cover. Should warm up though as there is plenty of blue sky out over the mountains.CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Yes very mild overnight. Didnt drop below 15.

Re: General May Weather
Just had a look at the months total to date. Only 26mm to date. Having a look at 3 day model charts there is a chance of some brief heavy rain overnight and more areas of persistent lighter falls throughout tomorrow. I dont remember seeing the ground so hard around here at this time of year. Not that its hard but its certainly not soggy like it would normally be.

Re: General May Weather
1000mm is a year rain total for most places in the world, not a month total!
what is the record rain for 1 month for the greymouth area?
given the annual average is 2500mm or so, 1000mm in one month would be unusual I would say
must be some very boggy farmland around the area now
