Been cloudy (thick high cloud) all day here but mild still with no wind at all to speak of. 17 degrees currently but I see a lot more humid here compared to Ashburton. Its been above 80% most of the day here 88% currently and 66% in Ashburton.Deano wrote:Fine across the plains,no sign of shower activity and a pleasant 21.3 degrees

Met Service overnight low for Auckland of 14C looks wrong. DPs shouldn't drop below 16C. We'll have a moist subtropical flow until tomorrow afternoon's W change.

Karamea River gauge at Garibaldi sitting on 392mm so far today on the West Coast Regional Council website. No wonder flood warnings are out for the Tasman District.

Re: General May Weather
I think its going to be a rather wet night, some very persistant to heavy falls coming down with that rain band now.
Just light patchy rain at the moment but its very confined to the city northwards.

They ended up with 409.5mm at this site to midnight yesterday, another 11mm since - its way up the Gorge in Kahurangi National Park. Massive day there.Razor wrote:Karamea River gauge at Garibaldi sitting on 392mm so far today on the West Coast Regional Council website. No wonder flood warnings are out for the Tasman District.

There was even bigger falls in the Ranges inland of Golden Bay, a rain gauge at the top of the Anatoki recorded 497mm in around 36 hours. Most of the Tasman and Nelson regions rivers reached at least a annual flood level with a few getting a 1 in 5 level. The Wairoa River peaked just shy of a 1 in 20 level which was a concern after the problems they were having in the Hope area this morning with a number of houses evacuated, although river levels are falling now:

My gauge has recorded 83.3mm in the past 36 hours or so, with the bulk of that (around 70mm) falling between 5pm yesterday and 5am today. Monthly total is now up to 279.4mm, not a meter I know but impressive for Nelson.

Re: General May Weather
Up to 17mm in Howick for the event, thought there would be more than that overnight. Very warm overnight though, min of 17.
Need around 30mm more to reach May average (roughly)

Re: General May Weather
Oh, I assumed May average would be around 130mm, maybe a bit high but 102mm is lower than I thought. 99mm here MTD. Just patches of very light rain since 8am.spwill wrote:Niwa has the Auckland May average at 102mm, Greylynn has had 114.6mm so far. Re: General May Weather
Another triple figures in the 24 to 9am.. the majority of that falling after midnight. It must have fair come down at one point as I was woken up sometime during the morning with flashlights on my windows.. wondered what the hell was outside and it was Westroads crews with all their lights and doodads clearing out the stormwater drains, the noise of the water rushing through the runoff creek out the front of my place was deafening. There will be lots of minor flooding and stuff around here this morning but just as well it drains off fairly quickly.
I know 1000 for the month sounds a bit far fetched but talking to some of the old timers here, it can get a lot worse than this along the Paparoa Ranges behind me.. though they do admit this has been a very wet start to the autumn/winter period.
Went out to the Greymouth Bar yesterday in the misty rain with all the trawlers coming in.. man that piece of water is dangerous, the Tasman was flat as glass albeit a 5 foot swell but the dirty runoff coming out of the Grey River.. talk about a washing machine!

Re: General May Weather
Looking ahead to this time next week another beefy low is brushing around Northland but seems the strong high will keep NZ dry.
