Probably not till real winter(a low directly over us/unstable westerly flow or wait till we have convergence in the warmer months.

Have just been out chasing. I ended up out towards Tangimoana, where I met up with an organised line of shower and thunderstorm clouds, which followed me all the way back into Palmerston North. I struck small hail on Mt Stewart and saw bright inter-cloud lightning, several times, peaking at about 1 flash per minute, on the way back in.

This must have been the passage of the cold front, as the temperature has dropped from 18C down to 15C and the wind has backed to the W/NW.

Palmy even got a mention on the TV1 news, during the first weather segment, where Karen said that a thunderstorm came through at 5pm, with strong winds from the base of the storm and lots of lightning. :D

I've got a couple of the incoming storm, although they don't look that great. I'll try and upload them, shortly.

These were taken out at Tangimoana, as the storms started to roll in.

Thanks for the report Greg. Looks like a little bit of a gust front with that storm.

The wind did get really strong, as that gust front passed over. That's when I gapped it and started heading back to town.

2nd picture is from Friday evening, showing the high cloud with mamama and the CB line that moved down the west coast (looking SW from Maramarua area)

1st photo is the finger funnel to the right of the tree from today

Nice looking camera Stehen. I hope things get going in the not too distant future, around Canterbury, so you can get out and get some good storm footage.
