Yes, Whakapapa could be a bit light on snow for opening next weekend, see what the mid week system brings, I think Turoa will be okay.

Hi guys, yep we are happy to be open tomorrow but please be aware that it's really only beginners Magic Carpet and partial Broadway open.. So in other words if you are hanging out to ski the whole mtn might pay to wait until next weekend after some more snow. We don't want you all to get the wrong idea about what is open and not... Cheers Team @ Hutt.

Mt Ruapahue ski field has the chance of getting some decent snow later Tuesday as the strong polar trough crosses the North Island. After that there looks to just weaker precip in a southerly flow for Wed and Thurs as the high builds in.

Turoa opens today with 51cm base in parts, should be good there by the weekend.

I'm guessing Coronet Peak will open soon with snow making but it looks like the Otago season will continue to struggle. Mid next week looks good for Otago snow at this stage

It will be interesting to see how much snow Mt Hutt gets overnight, I see they received 10cm today from snow showers. The Otago fields are missing out but models have been suggesting a disturbed westerly pattern may develop next week which would be good for them.

Indeed. This system has packed more of a punch here in Canterbury than forecast in terms of precipitation.

The freezing level is expected to rise over 3000 metres over the South Island by lunchtime tomorrow. That can't be good news for those wanting to frolic in the snow.

Looking at the Castle Hill webcam the snow is thin on the ground accross the craigieburns and will melt by the weekend on mild and lower slopes.

A false start for the ski bunnies, sorry you'll have to wait for the next weather system!

At least Mt Hutt got 30cm which was more than they would have anticipated and what the models were showing. Blue skies weather are going for a storm in a weeks time in Southland as below: (Probably change)

Wednesday to Fri 80% 20-50mm Very cold Strong SW Risk of gales, snow to low levels
Saturday to Mon 60% 20-50mm Very cold Strong SW/W Risk of gales, snow to low levels

Given the season so far 30cm is a great fall, atleast the Mt Hutt ski season is now underway, should be a great weekend up on Mt Hutt with the light winds and clear skies. _b

I see Ohau and Whakapapa plan to open next couple of days.

It still looks promising for snowfall over the Otago fields next week .
