Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
Good shake this morning @ 4.21 am
First good one for ages.
House shook quite vibrantly but only short lived. Rumble and shake around the same time and felt quite local.
It was.
Just 2 kms down the road from here @ about 9 kms deep.
Earthquakes here in Canterbury have been quietening down lately, but this one seemed to resurrect the issue, that the underground here is still adjusting itself after the initial quake of Sept4th 2011

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
It was a rude awakening reminder wasn't it , good shuddering rattle of the bed and quick jolt here.
I should have known it was a grumbling from under your bed John those chilli beans you got to lay off them ok

Biggest quake of the year here last night, a stroppy noisy 4.64 rumbler. New baby slept through but everyone else awake!

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
I was impressed last night with the non-slip lining mats I'd put on the shelves in my glass-fronted cabinets - much less rattling and romping-around of the china, compared to the smaller shake experienced here in Sept.

Nice little jolt here @3:33pm.
I was outside and it sounded like a sonic boom from under the ground and then I saw the windows on the house rattle.

I was in the bedroom changing the sheets on the bed when the bedside lamp rattled and I thought, that's strange, as I hadn't bumped it???
Then I realized what it was.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
A violent earthquake stuck Canterbury at 2:11pm today.
Nothing felt or noticed here although the epicentre was apparently just down the road.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
Interesting only a slight creak of the house here at the time, fobbed it off as being just the heat from the sun.
Normally we get the energy shove from the Greendale shakes more so than the port hills fault and any out in the bay, but maybe the soils under the city are that moisture laiden they are acting as a pillow slowing down energy travel in the seismic waves over longer distance.
If it was over 4.2 we would feel it for sure, but then we have felt shakes of that size like todays from Greendale many times.

I was sitting at the time and felt a strong vertical jolt then a good shake - knocked over one of my "indicators" for the first time in a year... or more?NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:Nothing felt or noticed here although the epicentre was apparently just down the road.

I was outside burning old gorse and stubble and old branches from the felled trees from last September, at the time but my wife was weeding in the vegie garden and she reckoned she heard a bit of a rumble in the ground at the time.

Nice wee shake up this morning around 2:30am. A 'tight' sort of shake only lasting for a couple of seconds.
Located 11.2kms from here. First significant felt one for ages.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
First one I've noticed for at least a couple of months. About 13km from here, made the house creak a bit but my quake indicators were still standing this morning...
