Re: General July Weather
15.4 currently. I still have snow in shaded areas. The last two spring like days though have melted it big time. Although some areas still have reasonably thick coatings that dont see the sun. Also a good coating on the top of the port hills that I can see out my window.Andy wrote:Has all that snow melted now

Re: General July Weather
There's a bit snow in shady areas here too but three days of dam near non stop NW wind has really dried out what was sticky ground after all the frosts & snow.

Re: General July Weather
Still plenty here in shady areas, 2-3cm especially the south side of the house and the deck bbq area shaded from the house next door with the lower winter sun.
Shows how deep it is as to how long its taking to melt, in 2006 we had snow laying around for about a week but it was much less and that week was very cold struggled to get above 10C most days where as this week its been much milder.
Tomorrow and Saturdays rain will melt it all for sure, and i have no doubt with the developing El Nino we will see another wintry blast delivering snow to sea level either next month or september.

Where did you get that from?Jasestorm wrote:...with the developing El Nino
Most ENSO models have been predicting current near-neutral conditions to remain through spring and likely to continue through next summer. If anything, indicators atm are favouring La Nina...

the only thing that shows any resemblance to maybe a Elnino is the colder than normal water above Aus
but that was due to an early onset of cold SE winds. It will not take long for the water there to get back to normal temperatures once the sun moves further south, I would think
the eastern equatorial pacific is mixed for temperature anomolies, so, no real guidence
I would suggest that the warmer than normal temperatures to the east of NZ would mean a return to La Nina is on the cards
2015 could be a El Nino year, assuming the 11 year cycle holds (just my theory)
(i.e 1982, 1993, 2004, 2015)

Re: General July Weather
Oh ok i just thought from what was said earlier on this winter that one was set to develope.
We have to wait that long for thunderstorms? it seems when its La Nina we get harldy any storms here well good storm set ups anyway.
2004 was a good year for them 3-4 days in a row around christmas, even before that 1999-2003 there was much more storms than now.

Re: General July Weather
Great day here again today. Reached 16 with overcast skies. Currently just over 13 degrees out there. Maybe some brief spots of rain shortly from a quick moving frontal band.

Re: General July Weather
Looking like I will be just over 0.5C warmer than normal here for July overall
so thats another warmer than normal month, doing well this year...might end up being NZ's warmest year on record at this rate?
rainfall a bit down on average here, but I the waikato are up a bit on average
Up on average for year to date rainfall

Re: General July Weather
Sure has been a mild year so far. temperatures have been well above for the last 5 months. Also been a big lack of snow havent had any yet, Normally we would have had a couple of falls by now.
Cloudy here now after a mainly fine day cooler than the last few days though.
