Not warmer than usual this month for the country as a whole, going by Climate Explorer - quite a substantial part of the country south of a line from Wairoa to King Country is a little below average.Manukau heads obs wrote:Looking like I will be just over 0.5C warmer than normal here for July overall

Yes, rather surprisingly the warmer exceptions in the S look to be central areas of N Otago and S Canty.RWood wrote: Not warmer than usual this month for the country as a whole, going by Climate Explorer - quite a substantial part of the country south of a line from Wairoa to King Country is a little below average.
Mean July temps for Akld, Hamilton and Tauranga look like they will be about 0.7C to 0.8C above normal, while Wgtn, Chch and Dunedin all look to be about normal.
P.S. A nippy 4.5C here earlier this morn, clear blue skies and hardly any wind.

Re: General July Weather
will be interesting then to see how the country as a whole comes out
might be just above average on the whole then?
what are the bets we could end up with the warmest year on record?
(will depend on how the spring goes....but sea temperatures are around normal around NZ, so I would suggest temperatures should continue just above normal for the rest of the year, due to over all not the cold SW flows through spring as much (no el nino) and likely to be still some warm northerly episodes still around (la nina type pattern especially as the seas to the east of NZ are warmer than normal)
what do others think?

Re: General July Weather
Tricky. As at the end of June 2011 is about 0.4C warmer than 2010 was to then; the annual average would have to have at least that lead to match 1998 (all this calculated from prov. numbers for 2011). 2010 ended with a very warm Nov & Dec.Manukau heads obs wrote:will be interesting then to see how the country as a whole comes out

I would think those areas were less affected by fog and hoar frost than usual.Nev wrote:Yes, rather surprisingly the warmer exceptions in the S look to be central areas of N Otago and S Canty.RWood wrote: Not warmer than usual this month for the country as a whole, going by Climate Explorer - quite a substantial part of the country south of a line from Wairoa to King Country is a little below average.

Re: General July Weather
Sunshine and mainly clear skies here today. Currently 9C and dewpoint 4.5C - at this time yesterday it was 11C and dewpoint 9C, so looks like it could be colder tonight.

Re: General July Weather
I think this month's national mean-temp should balance out close to normal.
Re the rest of the year, NOAA's CFS model was a little more confident than most for the re-emergence of La Nina during our spring, so it'll be interesting to see what the ENSO models say in a few days time.
Another 15C day here today.

Re: General July Weather
Would the very cold outbreak of 24th/25th have much of an impact on the monthly mean temperature for the country?

A gentle winter here this year , I think just one light frost here so far for 2011 on the 26th.

Re: General July Weather
Not bad here though I dont consider frosts numbers as harsh or not, wind runs, cloudiness and to a lesser degree precipatation factors more fore me,I think spring is the most unsettled season inspite of longer daylight.
