General July Weather
Appears with July starting tomorrow with a stationary high pressure over southern Australia will keep a ridge to the south and over N.Z with cold normal for this time of the year temperatures until a subtropical low moves SE and merges with the westerly belt next week and after with a disturbed west to southwest flow for all.

Re: General July Weather
Something to watch Michael, that deep low sliding to the south next week dragging in some very cold air even through the Tasman will be good for thunderstorms and hail in the west of both islands.
Windy out east with perhaps some low level snow come thursday/friday, but very cold in southland/otago from tuesday onwards with snow to low levels down there possible.
Finally winter kicking in properly.

Re: General July Weather
A promising start here with a white frost & blue skies; didn't notice a temp. earlier but it's 0.4degrees now with a murky fog creeping in towards us from the coast, so it may not get very much warmer or cheerier.

Re: General July Weather
This is odd, My Boltek is the only 1 picking up the strikes from over 2000 ks away in daylight.......

Are you hacking into my pc Tim?Tornado Tim wrote:This is odd, My Boltek is the only 1 picking up the strikes from over 2000 ks away in daylight.......
how do you know what our detectors actually detect when the info that goes to the site is only out to 600 or 1200km?
I'll see your 2000 and raise to 2898

Re: General July Weather
I had a look at your and others Graphs Alan and it had nothing (when I checked at around 2 PM)
So your boltek wasn't seeing anything when mine was.....
The Screenshot you posted only started seeing a strike at 5 PM (if your using 12 hour time that is).
So it was a sound posting
If I saw that others where picking it up at the time i wouldnt have said a thing.....

Re: General July Weather
You're right, my detector didn't pick any of those strikes yours did, I thought you were saying that only you were picking up the distant strikes as a general thing not that storm specifically.
My screenshot was actually around 5am, I did get a couple of strikes late morning about 2500 km north.
I must also say my detector seems to be a lot more 'in agreement with' the WWLN network since I relocated my detector 15m above ground

Re: General July Weather
Interesting that MetService had a T-max of 19.1C for Akld Aero yesterday, while most other Akld sites seemed to be around 14-15C?

Re: General July Weather
Must be an error, yesterday's graph shows the max between 9am and 12pm was 10.7, max 12pm-3pm 19.1 and max 3pm-6pm 13.4.Nev wrote:Interesting that MetService had a T-max of 19.1C for Akld Aero yesterday, while most other Akld sites seemed to be around 14-15C?

No frosts here yet despite the clear skies/light winds over the past few days.

Re: General July Weather
As far as frequency why I asked about the boltek,AM MW was reasonably clear well before sundown yesterday even Sth island stations were audible while the sun was up,One I remember well was the day in 1977 Elvis Presley died I had the radio on 4ZA Invercargill at 9am that morning and heard it on then, probably one reason it was remembered it was a frosty fine morning from memory.
Back to the temperatures, this site had Auckland as 19c,where they got it from?

Re: General July Weather
Looks like staying frost free here until atleast mid July. A period of mild unstable wet weather on the way for the North.
