Squalls and thunder, western North Island 7th-8th July

Unread post by NZstorm »

Round 2 of the squally weather inbound. Looks like heavy squally showers with possible thunder will reach the west of the North Island from about the middle of the day. And a cold front/SW change crosses this evening/overnight. Severe squalls of 70kts not out of the question later today/in the early morning.

According to metservice, west Auckland has a low thunder risk and the rest of Auckland no thunder risk. Darn...

I see a few orphined anvils around atm, some fresh convection over the Kaimais with some pileus caps on the towers going up :)

Strong upper level winds causing clouds to look very lenticular, looks very nice.

Lightning is out to the distant S/SW from here.

Looks like the main front is due in the early hours.

going by the radar i would expect Brian to get a spanking!

think hamilton is too far inland and the band is coming in from the wrong angle for here.
