Reports that a plane got hit by lightning in Auckland on Tv 1 news at 10am. No real details as yet other than its landed safely and everyone is ok.

EDIT well i just looked at the models and it looks like this SW flow will continue until about 7 days time. So potential for a bucket load more pulses from the southern ocean.

Heavy shower just went through here, brief small hail and gusts to 55km/h :smile:

it was VERY windy all night on the beachaven coast, windiest ive had for a long time, tho only been living here for 6 months now. quite impressive squalls, just kept coming.. was watching the lightning off the west coast from my house last night.

heard a big boom around 9:30 this morning over ponsonby!

gusting to 49 knots here (90kmh)
real gusty too (due to the cold air over relatively warm ocean (15 to 16C)

Woken by an incredibly loud rolling clap of thunder just after 3am, with lots of lightning, then we lost power ... only just got it back on after midday today (see 3am radar).

According radio interviews with the Air Force Boeing 757's crew, this morn's lightning appears to have entered the aircraft behind the underside of cockpit and exited via the aft aileron. It also left the telltale odour of ozone in the cabin.
