Heavy snow showers here in Queenstown overnight and this morning, about 20cm for higher parts of the town , conditions are easing now.
Looks like more wintry weather is on the way for the SouthIsland this week .

Re: SouthIsland Snow
20 cm? sounds like a long stick
nice to see, none-the-less. A smattering of very wet snow on the ground in Invercargill this morning, starting to disappear, with patches of hail remaining.
Western Southland looks to have gotten a good snowfall. Went for a drive in the Longwoods yesterday, will try get back out there today.
It came a bit later than usual, but this is the one system needed to get the skifields going.

Top of fernhill does tend to do well. Freaking miserable part of town in the winter mind you.

Good to see some snow pics. Looks like the freezing level drops overnight with the snow returning to Queenstown.

Great pics Spwill!
Was hoping to get some snow at St Arnaud this morning but level was around 1000 meters, looks like heaps have fallen on the higher peaks though.

Re: SouthIsland Snow
Rain heavy at times last night washed away a lot of the low level snow cover.
Wintry showers here in Queenstown this morning , a rather chilly 1.6C with snow falling to about the 400m level.
Photo this morning along Malaghans Road.

Nice photos. Think I would rather be down there than here, never experienced snowy conditions before.

Looks like some heavy snow this morning in Queenstown with currently 0.6 degrees and 5.8mm for the last hour. Spwill can you confirm? Ski fields are shut due to whiteout conditions.

Re: South Island Snow
I'm in the Mackenzie Country today, some snowfall here at Twizel. I am hoping to visit Lake Ohau this morning, waiting for the weather to clear. I see Ohau Ski field has had 1.5 meters of snow since Thursday evening.
Yes, looks like more snow to lake level again around Queenstown this morning

Re: South Island Snow
Back in Auckland today, 16C feels warm.
Satellite pic shows the next burst of very cold wintry weather developing just south of NZ, looks like the weather will clear for inland areas Friday with some good frosts over the weekend.

Re: South Island Snow
Have a heavy snowfall warning for southland now. Wind has picked up and is beginning to cloud over now. Temp is around the 8deg mark but will probably drop quickly when this front moves in.
