Clear skies here now. Some nice stars and the moon is looking beautiful! Pretty disappointing for us here only seen distant lightning. Weatherwatch is reporting a possible funnel cloud over Manukau Harbour

More cells NW of Auckland over the sea moving in, would expect West Coast Auckland to be most at risk of catching a Storm, certainly looking active west of Waikato up to Northland.

Hey Brian - yep took from you. (You're definitely a trusted source!). Also noticed an especially active area around there - hoping we might get other reports but nothing so far. (Although that's a good thing!)

good to know, LOL
the conditions were certainly ripe for a small tornado...the back edge of that CB was very defined, black one minute, then next we could see blue sky just out to the west!
(shame it was right on dusk so made it hard to make things out)
certainly with 122kmh winds that we got here things were ripe for a small tornado on the back edge of that CB and the rain radar definatly showed a mesocyclone type hook...

lucky you Brian.

We had one 5 seconds difference at around 6.40pm.

Looks as though there will be some more storms to come in tonight.

Just had a good short sharp shower. Added 1mm and a gust of 52kph.
Rain has returned again this time heavier, waiting for the thunder and hail. :)

Nothing at all over here... Lucky West Coast & Central areas. It rarely gets past the Kaimai's into the BOP.

Glad to hear all the reports and that you are all enjoying it.

I hang around down Bombay way and waited for that storm. Infrequent lightning but I had a strike close to me, about 1 second to the thunder.

just back from a PTA meeting...disconnected the phone modem before I left...
that close lightning might have been more like 2 seconds lightning to thunderm thinking about it, LOL...was real loud thunder in any case....I dont think there was much cloud to ground lightning though? all seemed to be just in the lower part of the cloud only? (not much in the top part of the cloud either)..is that what you guys noticed as well?
