WeatherWatch must have meant wind chill temperature surely!?
Agreed. Wind-chill would have been a factor, but generally air-temps weren't as cold as in recent days.
The Herald left out "wind chill" in their quote. Not an uncommon sort of stuff-up by them.

Pretty cold in W'gton, saw a few flakes for about 2 minutes here in Kelburn. Some afternoon sun, may lift the Tmax a bit. Since the 4.6C max on 21/6/1976 (0.1 above Kelburn's record low in 1938), the coldest day was 17/7/1995, with 5.1C. Snow fell on the higher suburbs the following night, followed by the previously-mentioned run of bright SW days. Since then, the coldest day was 12/7/2004, with 6.2C Tmax.

Day has clouded over; 4.7 degrees; wind seems more westerly and still strong & gusty; isolated snowflakes spiralling down from time to time here and at Staveley.

Sleet here now as oppose to snow. Obviously the air has warmed a little with a prolonged gap between showers..

Was short lived. Anyhow air is now too warm at 1.2 degrees.

Yeah but is it actually rain leighton or that fine grapel stuff? still creates a good ice base when it does snow.
Had some of our heaviest falls between 1pm and now, seems the CB showers are developing more so as they hit land.
Heard a loud crack down the road around 1pm large half of a tree falling down due to the weight of the snow.
I would say these will be going until about 9pm atleast.
12cm on the concrete 16cm on the grass, 14cm on my car roof and 18cm in fence side drifts.

Its rain now, had lots of grapel earlier that was a good base and set very quick. First time today that the showers have been more rain than snow with wetting stuff. Was good earlier as I was able to stay dry but now i get soaked. She done now I think. Cant complain though from what this system has delivered.

Snow slowly melting away here. At it's peak it was 13.5cm in the middle of the paddock out in the open and 11cm on the deck. Still the odd shower of graupal mixed in the sleet flakes whatever, seem to coming up from the south. Temperature hovvering the 1C mark all afternoon from being in the minusses this morning.
Haven't read the raingauge yet. Wait until the event is over then melt it all into the glass.

It was rain and sleet yeah, quite odd perhaps the wind did something there as there was the strongest wind all day here about 20 mins ago definatly gale force shaking all the snow off the trees.
Getting much colder again now with the daylight fading, might have to avoid going to work until about 10am atleast

5cms on my lawn but it's been thawing nicely. I see the melt is showing at the airport too with the hourly 'rainfall' figures.

Not sure how they came up with the forecast for Invercargill though. 'showers easing' when there's been none since I got up at 7am. Nice to see the sun and a light northerly at the moment.
Yeah there have been none either down here in the Newfield area all day, the highest it has got here is 6c.
