Re: General August Weather
I was in Ashburton yesterday, and in Temuka and Geraldine today. Very pleasant - topic of conversation everywhere: contrast between last week and this. 15 degrees at Mayfield when I returned today at 4pm: nor'west arch over the hills. Temp. currently dropping: now 13.9 degrees & only 37% humidity.

Re: General August Weather
Models are showing possible snow to low levels one week from now. I know its a long way out, probably even to long out to even be posting on here!

I've been telling everyone that the possibility of another polar blast is looking very unlikely now despite what they have been saying in the paper, media etc. I hope this dosen't eventuate as we are enjoying nice weather at the moment. Patterns seem to be changing. As the days are getting longer and warmer as we head off into spring, any cold outbreaks from now, will probably lead into thunderstorms with hail (hopefully not too damaging to spring crops) and the possible tornado (hopefully not too damaging as well).

Re: General August Weather
Yes thunderstorms without the hail, mind you my area doesn't get large hail for some reason.
A light NW wind here this morning with no dew and a over night low of 7.5C

Yes put a new water tank in at our batch 5 weeks ago and only 300mm in the bottom so far all native plants look very stressed and brown.RWood wrote:The Met site shows Hokitika as having had barely 10mm of rain in the last 30 days. It may catch up a little in the next few days, but not too drastically by the looks of things.
Good frosts to with a -4 recorded last week.

Up here I can think of many southerlies in Early Sept with the lowest snow all winter, some in recent years (so I think you made a slightly unwise statement there).NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:I've been telling everyone that the possibility of another polar blast is looking very unlikely now despite what they have been saying in the paper, media etc.
It's still a way out, but fingers crossed here for another good fall.

Re: General August Weather
Last night was our first night in two weeks where the temp remained in double digits. I left home in "anticyclonic drizzle" this morning at 6.40am, remained mostly cloudy all day.
Little cooler tonight, 9C and dropping.

Much nicer weather today than yesterday. Plenty of sunny periods, min 5C max 16C. It's been a dry August.

Currently 14.7 degrees with no wind and warming nicely. Hopefully that weak southerly doesnt affect it.

Re: General August Weather
The NW wind thats given this area five day of relatively consistent temps was replaced by a SE change at about 3.00pm today which then dropped the temp from a high of 19.8deg,even had a weak cloud build up convergence zone here between the a NW and the SE wind change, good sign .
Re: General August Weather
What a nice day it has been! Great weather to cut down the Gorse and then putting some weed killer over them. Been busy for 6 hours! Hopefully the weather will stay like this for next week! Almost spring!

Yes the paperwasps are about now in the sunshine,A great time to eliminate them before they create workers in the summer months.

Thought there must have been some of that low stuff down that way today as there's been a bit of low cloud coming over the hills of Waikari all day.Lukemyster wrote:Sea fog in New Brighton, very little vis. Sun hasnt been out at all here today.
Had a veil of thin high cloud all today as many others did also, but thickened up during the afternoon.
high of 16.8
