Thickness levels too high now for snow on low lying areas of Canterbury and will get rain from now as the high pushes in :( .Snow will reatreat to over 300m mark with sleet on the lower parts of the ranges.
Will be very cold tonight though but doubt we will have a very
severe frost unless we get clear patches tonight. Was'nt it brilliant though while it lasted. =D>

Was a decent fall alright, would have to go back more than 20 years or more since there was a deeper fall.

Temperature fell further to 0.4 degrees at present; has been snowing well since around 2pm., perhaps half an inch in that 45 minutes. Visibility 100 metres. Pressure has risen. Humidity 76%.
Edit to add: Was that thunder again?

Steady rain in Laingholm, with the odd lump of slushy, icy rain (sleet/graupel?). Not snow though. We are approx 75-80m AMSL.

Have just had heavy rain mixed with graupel and possibly what could have been sleet (tiny mushy bits of ice), followed by a heavy fall of hail.

Been dry here much the afternoon with the activity sitting to the south mainly, temperature just starting to drop now down from 5.5C to 4.9C now.
That band is slowly moving northwards so it will be interesting to see what happens as its on perfect timing for night setting in.

Interesting 4PM Wellington radar.

Could someone explain - Is the heavey snow currently falling around Wellinton due to advection?

Stopped snowing here and looks to be clearing, Sleet/snow mix most of the day but nothings settled since 11am. Total of 7cm in town which is turning slushy now around 15-20cm above 400m.

Couple of pics from today.
