Had a brief shower come over around midday at work with sleet intermixed, didnt hear any thunder even though there was some nice structure in the clouds.
There was a nice area of CU that stuck around inland North Canterbury from 7am quite dark and ominus flicked out a few spots of rain.
I dont think it turned southerly at all during the day, the showers like yesterday seemed to be developing more inland and then moving N-NE angling up the foothills almost.

Was some nice bits of CU out around lunch time today as i got texts from Richard aswel with updates thanks richard :)
The clouds looked more icy/ hail to my liking though, didnt quite have that real thunderstormy look to them but good none the less! just need it to be more into spring and then summer and things will really start to get going!!
Nice wee band of rain at the moment moving in from the south.. proberbly linger for a couple hours

It's snowing here in Waddington, has been for about an hour on and off. Not much settling but coming down at a steady rate, not much wind. Big flakes.

Period of rain in Chch this evening, with temp dropped to 3-4C, not surprising there's snow to quite low levels in Canterbury.
Apparently got down to 1 or 2C in Masterton this afternoon, after that storm hit Wellington.

They werent the most active storms yesterday with only a few strikes+rumbles Mike but i suppose beggars cant be chooses and i'm happy to take anything to comes my way \:D/
What i found interesting about those storms though was the lack of wind even when they pasted over head it still remained relatively calm.

Today here the wind swung back NW again and a cool 13.8 high.

Tomorrow is looking interesting with storms again forcasted for inland areas of Canterbury,Jase you might be in the right area by the sounds of it _b

Sounds good Richard will have to take the camera's to work so i can make that mad dash after work when they seem to fire.
Some good steady falls last night between 10-11pm with 5mm in the gauge, snow around the Foothills with a decent dusting down to about 250m i would say.
I do wonder though with tomorrow if there will be high cloud ahead of the front as its very westerly at first before going S-SW, simular set up to Monday i would think.

well said there Richard :) _b
Yeah by sounds of things maybe some heavy showers, i dont think thunderstorms will be at a risk that we may have had yesterday but we will see.
Saw a very very light dusting on top of port hills this morning. and ice on my car and grass white. so certainly got very frosty.

Not much in the way of thunderstorms today sadly.. That S outherly came in abit sooner then i expected but didnt look like it would do much.
Went for a bike ride tonight up the port hills and could see an anvil topped CB in TC with then sunset tonight looked quite good!

Looks like the weather settles down a bit next week and warmer conditions in the east

The trough crossing the North Island on Saturday evening should be thundery from Taranaki to Auckland. Possibly worth keeping an eye out for this system.

Little cell moving NE towards CHCH, may contain some hail but will be very much a hit or miss shower. Cold night out there currently. Still and 2-3 degrees.

Some punchy looking CU going up east of me, quite dark swirling bases simular story to the S-SW too.
Wind is NE at the moment, a few heavy showers popping up on the radar and just the odd big spot of rain or two so far here.

I notice a bit of convergence over the inland North Island tomorrow on the 18Z gfs. More Rotorua to Taupo way but a likely spot for pm thunder I would say.

Partly cloudy in Auckland with 16C. Looks like a weak trough approaches our area from the west tonight with a heavy shower risk, maybe isolated thunderstorms.

Unstable looking skies around Auckland this evening, a mostly dry day here so far, any showers were brief and light, sunny spells , max 17C.

Mt Eden being taken over by the Australians and Irish today.
