Re: General September Weather
Thick high cloud here and a moderate westerly, Currently 14 degrees.
Hoping tonights southerly change brings some decent rain cause like most of Canterbury theres been very little rain here this winter.

Re: General September Weather
On Radar it looked like an isolated cell which has now headed NE out over the coast, but looked impressive nonetheless, some red/purple blotches in the centre of it.

Re: General September Weather
No thunder heard from here but sky looking quite thundery around 3pm, to the northern part of TC, with some trail coming out of the cloud. A few sferics from then on to now.
Grey , layered cloud around at the moment but with that instability look about it.
Calm here with the odd light patchy rain falling.
Barometer is very low so anything could happen

Re: General September Weather
Dont worry Richard its not southerly here yet either, that cell just developed near my work and went around us very dark and ominus looking then heard a few rumbles of thunder no rain though.
But 200m up the road from work the roads were wet, as i left work there was another cell developing around Oxford.
On the way home i drove through some heavy rain and brief tiny hail stones.

Re: General September Weather
Interesting
On the MetService Website, in the Severe Thunderstorm forecast , there was a No Thunderstorms icon for us today, as compared to the northern areas of the North Island, but there were a few claps, reported, resulting from lightning from some movement out of TC, well, possibly from that area/region, moving west to east..
Maybe these lightning occurances don't qualify for a thunderstorm and don't come under the "Severe" or even a potential thunderstorm to occur, unless it it is in a local forecast?
Any member from MetService on this forum would like to comment?

Re: General September Weather
Yeah just looked at M/S and they have no mention of thunderstorms down this way, 10mm hail to me is enough to come under there "Severe" category- bit slack really.
Edit- I see it has to be 20mm or larger

Just tipped out a massive 4mm of rain, not much but hoping there's going to be cloud build ups that can produce a bit more during the day.

Re: General September Weather
Yes just 1.5mm here. Thursdays change looks to be potentially interesting for some heavy showers and maybe a thunderstorm, although it is fluxuating as you would expect.

Re: General September Weather
Mostly subtropical and native gardens around here, very little seasonal change. The give away for climate is always the vegetation.Michael wrote:Are your leaves already out, only the canadian maple is heavy budding here,no leaves, others all bare except the row of pinus radiata along the front

No rain here from the southerly change last night, mainly fine today apart from some soft hail a couple of hours ago. Quite a strong WSW wind and 11 degrees.
