Looks like the Catlins may be the best spot for a bit of snow from this next polar flick.

Hopefully the spring anticyclone next week holds on long enough for a dry Friday/RWC opening.

Maybe a slight ts/hail risk over the north tomorrow pm as the cold upper trough passes over but there looks to be a lack of surface convergence. 500mb temps will be -30C!

A clear sky start to the day here with a bit of cloud moving along the coast out to the east,i wonder if any cloud build ups are possible today because of this cold upper air mass now over us :-k :-k

Temp 6.5deg and a light SW

Gusty southerly change came through here at about 4:15 and had a brief moderate shower just before 6. First rain in almost two weeks.

Was in Ashburton today where there was a chilly southeasterly from around midday. Driving home, could see hard-edged stormy cloud to my north and to the south, and drove into rattly rain with 'melting bits' splashing on the windscreen, then a brief fall of hail at Mayfield. Presently 6.8 degrees and steady light rain.

Winds have been SSE since 1pm here but stayed NE at the airport until about 4pm so a convergence line developed to the north of here.

Raining here for awhile now just light to moderate stuff, wind still NE but no real ominus signs from here that indicate a storm coming just so obscured from its sight at the moment.

Few spots of rain, not enough to cover the concrete as yet. Not expecting much from this. Winds up a little more now.

After all, many of us haven't been expecting much from this event as it is.

The MS cover the arse well with there forecasts, take this mornings one "showers turning to wide spread rain north of Ashburton" but at the same time they have the rainfall amounts for the four rural towns as nil :?:

Enough rain to cover the ground here, have puddles even, been a little 'thundery' the day today.. I would had a low risk out today, not saying metservice didnt because i never chcked there outlook anyways but yeah certainly had some sign there indeed, looked really good around 11 30 this morning with that cold upper air coming up.
Only 1st day spring so hopefully good signs to come, not a bad wee start. :)

MS did have it at low risk initially but was put up to moderate later on, but good signs for spring/early summer should be a good season to test the camera's out.
Heavy rain here now.

Just drove through a heavy snow shower on wigram road in a heavier cell. It was big flakes and turned to solid snow for 2 - 3mins. sat there in the car. Just popped home but heading up the hill now. Raining currently with flakes at times.

Just got back, was a brief snow shower near Victoria park then it turned to rain. Just light spots again now but those heavier shower cells are certainly pulling the snow level down. As you say seeing big flakes at 5 degrees or so just shows. Really didn't expect to see that. Anyhow that looks like thats that, was always going to be brief. Maybe the odd occasional overnight shower clearing by dawn. Radar shows it all passing out of the city from West to east.
