Re: General September Weather
Lacking 'pregancy' and warm surface temperatures for things to develop.
Interesting the way that the above cold air, indicated here by the cirrus, moved out from the NW to the SE with a sort of "SE Arch" developing with clear sky in that region.?
Cloud becoming not very interesting for things to happen, aslo the barometer was rising, sadly
Now clearing away as the barometer rises.

A weekend of two halves, summer then winter. Troughs seem to want to come through at the weekends lately, another trough system lining up next weekend.

Yes. That's why I consider it to be a thunderstormy period into summer with this diminishing La Ninaspwill wrote:A weekend of two halves, summer then winter . Troughs seem to want to come through at the weekends lately, another trough system lining up next weekend.

Yes, the current pattern would get more interesting as we head into the warmer months if it keeps going.

Re: General September Weather
The country warms up a bit later in the week but also looks unsettled for the weekend with thunder possibilities.
Summer ts season will start once the sea breezes get going proper. The sea breeze has to be strong enough to create good convergence and usually we wait until November for that.

That's what I'm working on, regarding current weather patterns for a good thunderstorm season this year down here.NZstorm wrote:

Re: General September Weather
7.8mm here in the last 24 hrs; low of 7.6C earlier this morn and a high of just 13.8C late yesterday morn. Hard to imagine that we were enjoying sunny temps nearing 20C in the 2 days prior.
Looking forward to a more settled, sunny week and being able to crank up the ol' barbie...

Quite a bit of ice on the car this morning (not frost), rained last night around 12.45 AM and then cleared out considerably.

Re: General September Weather
Think we have reached our high for the day. 22.5 degrees, warmest day here for a while. Sun is behind high cloud and more of a breeze now so will cool off a little, however it is a NW breeze at the moment so shouldn't fall off too much.

Re: General September Weather
Looked like a very weak southerly change coming through here this afternoon. Some very weak uplifts and Cu forms, scuddish. The wind direction never changed but it was more westerlish than the previous NW and felt much cooler. ?CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Think we have reached our high for the day. 22.5 degrees, warmest day here for a while. Re: General September Weather
Low risk tomorrow, should be able to to head out if anything pops up. Although would want to be south before it does go up, will have another look in the morning.

Re: General September Weather
Something we'll do is start a convective discussion thread when things fire up this spring/summer. Its been quiet the last few years (apart from that 5 day outbreak over inland NI January 2010) so the country is due for a good summer convective season I reckon.

Re: General September Weather
Sure is, im clutching at straws for tomorow spent a good hour going over models trying to make them work for me! lol very very low risk tomorrow. Might have to look at a quick trip across the ditch to Queensland / NSW if there is a setup for a couple days....

Fully agree with you on that! I remember the late 90's was much more thundery then over the past few years....NZstorm wrote:Its been quiet the last few years (apart from that 5 day outbreak over inland NI January 2010) so the country is due for a good summer convective season I reckon.
Cold fronts over the past few years just seem to die before they hit land, very annoying.

Another absolutely stunning day today. No wind most of the day, very gentle breeze currently from the SW and sitting on 20 degrees.

Re: General September Weather
only 100mm in the past two months. Talk about boring! Although i shouldnt say boring as a flake or two of snow is counted in that 100mm. Nothing exciting since then though!!!
Come on spring. Show us your wild side!
